Carande Hotel — Hotel in Papudo

The Carande is listed in some English language guidebooks as the best option in town, which is a generous description, and not updated for many years. It occupies a large and rather rambling mostly wooden building in a good central location near both the main plaza (with Turbus office and bus stops for Santiago, La Ligua and Zapallar) and the main beach. It's also close to other restaurants and lodging options. We had a room for 4 people at the rear of the building for at a decent Ch$50000 including breakfast: the room was just big enough for the beds with some other cheap furniture. The beds were comfortable and clean, but the bathroom, whilst functional, was tired and a bit tatty. It was interesting to shower right next to a fixed clear glass window overlooking people's back gardens! Cleanliness was acceptable, but to improve the room quite a bit of money would need to be spent on it. Dinner in the restaurant was expensive with a limited choice, but breakfast was good and substantial, with fresh fruit, yoghurt and meats.||All the staff that we met were friendly and helpful, but overall I would only give this place an average score, rather...

Cobran como si fuera 4 estrellas y no alcanza ni para 1. El primer día que llegamos nos entregaron las llaves de la habitación y nos dimos cuenta que el baño estaba tapado. Esperamos casi una hora para que lo arreglaran. Al otro día al salir en la mañana dejamos las llaves para que nos hicieron las habitación( esto fue tipo 11 de la mañana). Volvimos a las 5 de la tarde y no encontraban las llaves. Tuve que quedarme con mi guagua en el auto mientras las buscaban porque hacía mucho frío...se demoraron demasiado en encontrarlas. Luego nos entregaron las llaves y nos damos cuenta que la habitación estaba tal cual la habíamos entregado. Ante esto ya tenía mucha rabia y fui a reclamar. Me dijeron que la persona que había recibido las llaves que era la dueña había olvidado entregarla a la mucama. Les pedí una solución. Me dijeron que ya no había nadie para hacer aseo y les dije que entonces nos cambiarán de habitación con las mismas condiciones de la cual habíamos pagado. Vista al mar y con otra cama para mi hija. El tipo me llevó a una que no era así y le dije que entnces me tendrían que devolver el dinero y me dice que no se podía y ahí recién recordó que le quedaba otra habitación como la que teníamos. Ni siquiera nos ayudaron a cambiarnos de lugar, tuvimos que trasladar todo nosotros de una habitación a otra. Cero recomendable este lugar. A pesar de la situación incómoda que vivimos las habitaciones están sucias, el frigobar todo asqueroso. De verdad un asco todo. El desayuno muy pobre. El pan duro y recalentado... Para el precio que cobran pensábamos que era un lugar decente, pero nos equivocamos. No vengan a este lugar. Antes de irnos nos enteramos que retaron a las mucamas por el tema de la habitación cuando en realidad la culpa no fue de ellas sino del tipo que está a cargo a quien le avisamos que habíamos dejado las llaves y él corto por lo sano y no asumió responsabilidad sino que culpó a otras personas y eso le hace aún peor. Debería dejar de estar con el celular todo el día y poner más atención a los huéspedes porque cada vez que fuimos hablar con él estaba hablando...

It’s a cozy hotel 1 block away from the beach, great place to visit all year long, they have their own restaurant, it has fresh sea food, from the local “Caleta” (local fishermen market). Also the hotel has free wifi on the common areas, such as the restaurant and the main lobby. In some rooms you can see the ocean. The people that work here are nice and serviceable. Good breakfast, all you’ll need to wake up. And they receive credit and debit cards. ||Papudo is a small town by the sea, it has a great beach for the little ones, and a bigger or longer one with good waves for surf, if you are into it, or to run by the sea. Also everything is at walking distance...
