Superb location with amazing views; quite a festival of rustic chic, if you are keen on that (personally, I find it lazy and pretentious alike). Nestor, the manager, could not be more solicitous and helpful. And now for some constructive criticism, which the owners should pay heed to. For $300 a night, guests should be provided with:

  1. A sign or two to find the hotel. Google maps doesn’t know it exists, nor do people in town.
  2. Once you get to the entrance, assuming you find it since there are no signs, either you have a 4X4 vehicle, which luckily we had, or you have to call them and they’ll come to pick you up—except they never answer the phone. And I mean, never.
  3. Umbrellas are not provided for the guests; it’s a very rainy climate, and we had to walk from our cabin to the main hall and back under the rain.
  4. Sticks (and paper) to start the fire in the wood stove, the only way to heat the cabin. We were told the next day they were outside; besides, they had gotten wet with the rain. Net result: we started the fire at night, but in the morning we could not restart it, and it was cold.
  5. No Wi-Fi or internet in the cabins. It’s the 21st century—not acceptable.
  6. The path from the main hall to the cabins and back is not paved, all mud in the rain. Some simple slate tiles would do.
  7. The main hall is too small, so there is a single communal table for all meals. We ate with some Dutch people who, although fluent in English, for three quarters of the meal rudely spoke among themselves in Dutch. If the hall were larger, there could be several tables, and guests would not be forced to befriend potentially rude and churlish fellow guests.
  8. After three weeks in Green Patagonia, we fully realize that this is NOT a gourmet destination, far from it! The objective is the contemplation of superbly beautiful nature, not food. Having said that, dinner at the lodge, for an extra $50 per person, if you drink a cup of (just passable) wine, was bordering on the (very) incompetent. I would have gladly skipped it, considering that it was a very slow affair. At $300 a night, plus $50 per meal, the things I have listed should come standard (including a professional chef). Yes, the views are absolutely superb, but after driving for 2500 kilometers in Green Patagonia, we know that beauty is everywhere you look—and...

I had the pleasure of spending four days in the Suite Room at Alto Castillo, and I can confidently say that the lodge and property are absolutely stunning. During my pre-season visit, I had the unique opportunity to interact with the owners, who were exceptionally hospitable and warm. From the moment I booked my stay, the owner reached out with all the necessary information and remained available to answer my numerous questions.

While the area is relatively remote, there are a few stores nearby where you can purchase essentials. I opted for the all-inclusive package, and the chef prepared our meals throughout the day in an intimate and beautiful setting at the main lodge. They even provided gourmet bag lunches for our hikes and excursions, which were also organized through the lodge.

The lodge features individual dwellings spread out at a reasonable distance from one another, offering breathtaking views and a sense of peace and solitude. During my stay, I arranged tours and hikes in the local area, as well as explored the hiking trails on the property. As someone who travels frequently, I can honestly say this was my favorite stay due to the location, the size and beauty of the property, the accommodations, and the interactions with the owners.

This experience was exceptional from start to finish and absolutely worth it. If you enjoy off-the-beaten-path adventures combined with luxury lodging and stunning views, Alto Castillo is your...

We have travelled the world in the past 25 years, and have been to very beautiful places and hotels, sometimes very exclusive. This place is absolutely spectacular and unique. Ultra-exclusive place. Nested - after a difficult 4x4 access - high in the mountains, almost in the National park, with unbeatable view over the cerro Castillo and neighbouring mountains, with the river slaloming in the valley towards the west and the sunset point. It consists of the main lodge and breathtaking views terrace, where you can chill any time of the day, never tired of so much beauty to contemplate, and a very few number of rooms (Inthink only five). We had two spectacular bungalow cabins, one for us the parents, the one up the hill (the luxe one), and one below for our teenagers. Everything is beautifully made and arranged, always with great taste of owners who are an architect and decorator couple. Service is very friendly and effective by Nestor and team, who start to take care of you a few days before enquiring about your expectations and already preparing coordination of desired activities. Food is below expectation for such an exclusive place. It’s a point of improvement, so that culinary experience matches the rest of the standards of this literally incredible place that we were blessed to enjoy with...

An absolute must-stay for those who are traveling through Villa Cerro Castillo on the Carretera Austral. The lodge has stunning views of the valley, and the rooms and premises are surprisingly luxurious for such an isolated area. The lodge is also located in a great area for those who plan to hike Cerro Castillo or nearby lakes. Of note, as mentioned by others, the road to access the lodge is VERY steep, and I wouldnt have been comfortable driving it without 4WD. I also didnt have service, so calling and asking for a ride would have been out of the question.

We had the most wonderful two nights at alto Castillo. The setting is extraordinary, right underneath the magnificent Cerro Castillo with amazing views across the valley. We were the first guests to stay this season and everything was perfect for us. Our host Herman was attentive to our every need, the lodges were exceptional well designed and thoughtfully provided everything we needed. The evening meals were some of the best food we ate in Chile and so loved going to bed next to the sweet smell and cosy glow of the log burner.

Remarkable place! We spent here part of our honeymoon and it was completely worth it! The cabin houses are beautiful, made with care and love, the food is delicious (try dinners in Alto Castillo, the chef is amazing!). The place is quite remote, located on a hill where you can get in your 4x4 car or the owners can drive you, if requested. They are super nice, helpful, and speak English. Not all cabin houses have internet, but the common area has Starlink and the connection is perfect. The ambience of the place is unmatched.
