A nice overall hotel / restaurant from which to partake in Cajon del Maipo activities. We reserved on-line through Bookings.com, which gave a better price than going through the hotel. ||||The hotel has 12 rooms, and a detached Cabana (didn't see inside). We stayed in one of two rooms with a terrace/balcony on the second floor. The room faced west and got warm during the afternoon but quickly cooled in the evening. The east facing terrace room had a small table and two chairs, which were missing from our room- they would have been a nice addition but the room was fine nonetheless. There is a pool which is terrific after a day of hiking.||||As the name indicates, the restaurant serves up French food, with lots of options (chef/owner from Strasbourg). Our first meal was good (boar ribs thick with meat in a red wine-black olive sauce cooked perfectly. It included roasted potatoes and braised carrots. The second dish, grilled beef, was a tad fatty with potato gratin and ratatouille, although great flavors. On a separate night the chicken curry was delightful. Nice rustic, old world atmosphere with delightful French music.||||We were dissapointed with the charcuterie plate and a bit shocked when it arrived. The house pate with sliced gerken pickle and dijon mustard was appetizing. There were two small pieces of prosciutto. Cheese included 3 pieces each of brie, a red pepper spiced cheese (full flavored), and something along the lines of a mild gouda. Platter accompaniments included dorito chips, small pretzels, peanuts, a few almonds, and baguette slices.||||Breakfast was simple but good: yogurt, one slice of ham and one slice of cheese per person, a small bowl of fruit in juice, a sweet bread, small croissant from a package, or a slice of tarte tatin, basket of toasted bread (ranging from baguette to white rolls to the typical Chilean white bread), juice, and coffee or tea. ||||This hotel was an enjoyable place to relax, read or take a dip in the pool, although periodic barking dogs woke us up a few nights. The husband, boys and staff were very nice. Note if you are in need of internet, it works intermittently. This was not their fault but generally seemed to be the case in this area. In any other place this might be a three star but in the Cajon del Maipo, options...
Read moreI called to make a reservation at this hotel, but almost had to apologise for calling. A sharp voice at the other end of the phone line told me brusquely that I should have understood that I should communicate digitally with them. So I wrote an e-mail instead, but never received a reply and decided to make a reservation at another hotel. However, I still nurtured my first positive impression of the website and the reviews and we decided to stop by the restaurant for lunch. There was indeed a cosy atmosphere, with French music playing in the background, rustic but charming furnishings and decorations, the restaurant staff was friendly and smiling and the menu full of delicious French dishes, at least on paper. But even though you felt that you traveled to France in an instant and found yourself in a traditional brasserie, the food snapped us out of that illusion. The gravy was poured in overabundance all over the dish, everything was quite greasy and tasteless. The children's hamburgers were very similar to the frozen ones in plastic wrapping that you buy at the supermarket, far away from your local...
