My husband and I decided to book a getaway close to the city to celebrate our wedding anniversary, but sadly, our experience at Lodge El Morado was nothing short of a nightmare.
We booked everything well in advance, yet our room wasn’t even ready when we arrived. The so-called "best room: Suite Deluxe", they gave us was directly above the restaurant, which meant we endured constant noise from early morning until late at night. To make matters worse, the air conditioning was broken and leaking onto the rug, leaving the room damp, musty, and uncomfortable.
The service was absolutely appalling. Shockingly, the receptionist asked for tips at check-in, justifying it as a "service fee" for the booking process—completely inappropriate and unprofessional behavior.
For a place that markets itself as a SPA, their attitude toward basic amenities was unacceptable. When we requested towels for the spa, they rudely told us, "you already have towels in your room." They expected us to use ONE towel for the entire duration of our stay—for both the spa and the shower. Obviously, we didn’t accept this, especially after paying their so-called "full service fee." Yet, we had to request fresh towels every single day. This petty and begrudging approach to such a basic necessity is just one example of how unaccommodating they were.
For nearly $300 a night, you would expect at least decent coffee for breakfast, but instead, they provided cheap instant coffee packets. If you wanted a proper cup of coffee, you had to pay extra for it. Breakfast overall was incredibly mediocre, offering only the bare minimum.
The SPA itself was a major disappointment. Despite their grand claims of excellent facilities, only the pool, one sauna, and one hot tub were functional. Everything else was either broken or closed, making their advertised "luxury spa" a complete misrepresentation.
The restaurant was another disaster. The prices were high, and to top it off, my husband got food poisoning from their food.
To make matters worse, the owner was shockingly rude. During one of our meals, some of the staff confided in us about their terrible working conditions, revealing that they are underpaid, overworked, and treated poorly. The hotel clearly exploits the lack of job opportunities in the area.
Overall, our experience was dreadful. What was supposed to be a relaxing and enjoyable weekend turned into a stressful and disappointing ordeal. Between the poor service, broken facilities, unprofessional management, and misleading advertising, we cannot recommend this place to anyone. Save yourself the trouble and avoid Lodge El Morado...
Read moreBeautiful location, but not a great experience. Our little car only just made it up the steep, rocky driveway. The receptionist didn't appear happy to see us. We speak a little Spanish so could just about grasp what she was saying. It's a shame that such a big hotel didn't have any signs or information in English. You can't get close to any accommodation with your vehicle. We left our suitcases in the car and took out what we needed. The path to our apartment was a zigzag rough stoney path. The restaurant staff were lovely. The food was okay. I had a very ordinary steak, you had to pay extra for salad or vegetables and fries (which didn't arrive) The view from our apartment room was beautiful, but the path to the car park went in front of it so you felt quite exposed. We were looking forward to using the spa and pool in the morning, before breakfast, and before setting off at midday. We discovered in the morning that the pool and spa area doesn't open until 11.30am and we needed to be on the road by midday. We just didn't really enjoy our short visit here, we didn't feel welcomed or...
