Eng.: The hotel of Russfin is beyond 5 stars - if you are hungry, tired and dirty trapper or hiker, salmon fisherman or just a driver after hours of driving through nearly desolated lands, then you do not count stars. The hotel is something between a lodge and a five stars, with B+B and all day meal. Well, perhaps you better reserve your place as the lodging is not unlimited.||If you want to start trapping beavers, first visit the office of SAG in Punta Arenas, you get a permission in 5 minutes and a wishing of good luck - beavers are a terrible pest there. You can make asado of beaver, which matches that of a piglet, but as it is a water animal then you can eat it probably even on Fridays, same as fish.||Get some reasonable map or just print the lates Google Earth satellite imagefor the details. If you are for a hike, then mind that you will hardly get over 10 km distance as the birds fly in a day. South of Rio Grande the mountains are empty of people, but full with beavers.
Read moreWe had a very pleasant stay at Parador Russfin, located at the center of Tierra del Fuego. ||||At arrival we felt sort of strange about the place at it is adjacent to a large sawmill. We were welcomed by Evelyn, who was a very proactive host (sent a whatsapp in advance of arrival) and service oriented at all times! Evelyn explained the sawmill was a certified sustainable industry overseen by a Swiss organization and local Conaf. That left us more or less at ease … as we are not for sawmills destroying native forests.||||The lodging is confortable and clean, with a wonderful guest room with tv and reading material on the Patagonia at the visitors disposal. In the morning breakfast was served there. Only coffee can be improved, was rather lousy (I love a strong coffee for breakfast).||||Lunch and dinner are available at the so-called ‘casino’ or cafeteria, very reasonably priced, with a fixed menu.||||Service was excellent: Evelyn helped us out with contacting our next lodging, providing us with useful orientation and help. A great...
Read moreI guess it's actually the car rental company's fault for supplying a car with worn tires. But these guys didn't help even though they could.
We were recommended to seek help here when one tire had a severe puncture and the other leaked a little. A very friendly technician started looking at the tire and we found the hole (he gets the star), but then the foreman came and aborted everything. Said that they didn't have time, they had very important sawmill-work to do. So they sent us to Cerro Sombrero, a hefty 5 hour drive because we drove with a bad tire, a spare-wheel and all the roads were about to get paved. This meant the end of our trip to Tierra del Fuego due to lack of time and lust. But we did manage to get to Cerro Sombrero with 15 psi left in the other tire, so wohoo, no hitch-hiking at least. Would not recommend them.
I don't know if the hotel is good, looked nice, but they are part of...
