Hosteria de la Colina is a grade above the typical nice guest house and well worth a stay if you're in Villarrica. We spent 2 very comfortable nights there.||||We arrived in the late afternoon after a hike at Volcan Villarrica National Park, and met the American owner, who had just arrived from Santiago. She has taken management over from the Chilean management company she was using and is reestablishing its former hospitality. She gave us a tour of the gardens and main house, and then offered us a complimentary glass of (good) carmenere on the terrace.||||Breakfast was plentiful: fresh fruit, yogurt, pastry or a tart, eggs, toast, honey/jam and tea/coffee. There's a lovely view of the gardens and lake from the dining room.||||The room was quiet and the bed was comfortable. The only slightly odd thing was the hot water, which is on in the morning and in the evening after 9pm. We hiked both days and needed showers before dinner, so they nicely turned on the hot water when we returned from hiking.||||If you have the time, spending an afternoon reading on the terrace would be relaxing. I also enjoyed taking a few photos of the flowers in the garden.||||We'd definitely stay again when we're back...
Read moreHosteria de la Colina is only about a fifteen-minute walk from the center of Villarrica, but it feels like a garden oasis. The lawns and gardens are lovely, filled with flowers and birds. Enjoy glass of wine on the deck looking out onto the garden with the lake and a volcano in the distance.||||Overall, this hotel has a very relaxed "you're part of the family" kind of feel. Their restaurant prepares simple, well-cooked dishes -- it was nice to arrive after a very long day of travel and be able to get a "home cooked" meal. There was a full moon, and the staff set up a telescope on the deck for us to view it.||||We weren't traveling with young children but this seems like it would be a good place for them. Some play equipment on the lawn, a friendly dog, a ping pong table.||||There are a lot of cabins for rent along the road around Lake Villarrica, but this was away from the traffic and hubbub and is a very...
Read moreWe had difficulty making a reservation and when we arrived the manager did not have a record of our reservation. Luckily we had brought the email referring to our reservation with us and there was a a room available. There is indeed a nice view of the lake from this property, but you can only see the volcano from a viewing platform in the garden. Our room was large, clean, and quiet, however the WiFi worked poorly in this location away from the main building. The breakfast which was nothing special was not available until 8:30 am. a little late for us. The young man who is the manager is also the chef. He was friendly and helpful but his partner was distant and cold, not even saying hello when we were in the same room. In general this property looks like it has seen better days. It is beginning to look a little rundown and needs a lot of...
