This is a cozy boutique hotel set within old traditional buildings. Location is right in center of the popular Nanluoguxiang shopping street. Few minutes walk from the subway. We travelled as 3 couples (6 adults), so we booked the family suite which was advertised as 3 beds in 1 suite suitable for 6 adults. Unfortunately the description of this suite was a little lacking and we realised that it is actually 2 beds in the living room without separating walls or doors while the 3rd bed is in the upstairs loft. And there is only 1 bathroom in the loft for the whole suite. The shower had hot water but pressure was not as strong as we liked. The suite comes with a pantry with fridge, electric hob, kettle and washing machine (laundry detergent pods included). And all of these including the snacks and drinks are complimentary. The staff will take your clothes to the dryer for you and placed them back in your room when done. They also offer complimentary coffee / tea all day in the dining room with some simple snacks. Breakfast is a mix of simple western and chinese options (like beef noodle and wonton soup). Yummy and adequately satisfying to start the day. We also loved that they offered small complimentary accessory items like heat packs to warm your hands, lighters, nail clippers, etc. What the suite lacked, the staff made up in abundance. For a small boutique hotel, the service was amazing. Even with the language barrier, the staff were always smiling and willing to help make our stay as comfortable and worry-free as possible. We like to praise a staff in particular, Xiaoyan. We dealt with her more than others and she was the best. We had trouble hailing cars to get around the city, so she offered to book the cars for us using her personal account. She then paid for the car hire with her own money first and trusted us to then pay her back at a later time at our convenience. And on the day of our checking out, we needed to send our luggage to another hotel while we continued on our tour. Again Xiaoyan and her colleagues, helped to arrange a car to take our luggage to the next hotel. And because we were not going with our luggage, one of her colleague offered to escort our luggage to ensure they got there safely. They did all this without us asking and without asking for any compensation (we did tip them for their helpfulness and generosity). We definitely recommend this hotel for all the complimentary services and items they offer but mostly because of the staff and service. But maybe consider booking individual rooms with...
Read moreThis hotel is about 10 steps away from the popular tourist street NaN Lou Guxiang and quite close to the drum and bells towers, HouHai lake and ‘real’ china. I took a chance coming here for a staycation as I usually go to a different traditional courtyard hotel, and the overall impression is average. The hotel is beautiful and a nice mix between Chinese and western . Most rooms appear to have a terrace or small balcony and our room was very clean and spacious. I’ve given it a 3 because breakfast was terrible, tasteless frozen hash browns and limp soggy toast with 1 egg that isn’t even served on a plate, rather on a hospital cafeteria tray with a piece of paper. Customer service was basic. Despite speaking Chinese, we had to phone 3 times to get our room serviced and we had to wait 30 minutes for breakfast on the second day even though you have to pre- order it. The Orchid hutong hotel, is quite close, a lot cheaper, the breakfast is amazing, it’s more western needs friendly so I would spend your money there if you are debating. However this place is gorgeous and the...
Read moreThe hotel is located in the middle of a busy hutong within the second ring road in Beijing. The hotel is conveniently located to visit Beijing and most of its most important buildings and places. The metro is at 10 minutes walk distance.||The hotel has a nice atmosphere and the rooms are very nice especially those with the balconies. ||There is some problems with toilets, as in all those kind of buildings where toilet paper should not be flushed in the WC. This is quite unusual for guest from Europe and the US.||Breakfast is OK with a selection of different menus for all tastes.||All in all the hotel is quite expensive for Chinese standards. The cost of a room is comparable to major world cities. China is no longer cheap for anyone.||The major problem is getting a taxi which cannot reach the hotel during peak hours due to the streets full of people. Therefore guests should be ready to walk to the nearest major street or the metro station.||Personnel at the reception was among the kindest I have ever...
