Considering how reasonably priced it was, the Nostalgia Hotel near the Lama Temple in Beijing is in a fantastic location! It's secluded down Fangjia Hutong, so it's very quiet, but it is within walking distance of the Lama Temple, the Confucius Temple, Guozijian, Nanluoguxiang, the Bell Tower, the Drum Tower, Yandaixiejie (Skewed Tobacco Pouch Street), and Shichahai. It's the ideal starting point for any tour in Beijing, particularly if you're a fan of traditional Chinese culture and the tranquility of hutongs in Beijing.||||The theme of the hotel is, of course, "nostalgia" and they've gone very deep! You'll find white rabbit candy in your bedroom, tin cups with Communist slogans on, wall paintings of hutongs in Spring, and a variety of other pleasant touches that will give you an insight into China's recent history. The rooms themselves are very comfortable and the showers are wonderful.||||We were very impressed by the wide variety of complementary items that were offered, including instant coffee, tea, water, a yoghurt drink, proper shampoo and shower gel, toothpaste, and toothbrushes. In the hotel foyer, there is also a place where you can pick up more complementary coffee sachets and tea if you run out.||||The true highlight of the hotel, however, is the wonderful staff! They were the most accommodating, friendly, and kind hotel staff members we have met. No matter what we asked of them, they always strived to accommodate us and make us feel as comfortable as possible. They went above and beyond the call of duty on several occasions, and for that we couldn't recommend this hotel...
Read moreWe stayed 3 nights here in April. |We arrived at Beijing Capital Airport and took the MRT here. We first took airport express to Donzgimen, then we had a choice of 3 stations near to the hotel. We made the mistake of going to Beixinqiao and following Google maps. Don’t use Google maps as it shows the wrong location, Maps.me is a better option but still not perfect. I would recommend getting off at Andingmen as it’s one long straight road with only one left and one right, this is an easy 10 minute walk. |Take pictures of the hotel and street sign with you to show locals, the hotel is tucked away. ||It’s a great area, lots of bars and restaurants on the main road a few hundred metres away. If you find Mc Donald’s there is a bar called QS Queenies a few doors down the does massive spirits with a mixer for 20. |A craft ale bar is just outside the hotel, expect to pay 50-60 here for a very nice IPA. ||We liked the hotel room. It was very clean and had a kettle, great air con and a powerful shower. Wi-fi log on is in Chinese so need staff to help. |Room service was daily. ||Downside to here was breakfast. The dining room simply isn’t big enough as was sometimes full. When we did get in it was poor. We managed a coffee and eggs on toast, go with this in mind and you won’t be disappointed. ||Despite the breakfast I can still recommend this place and would...
Read moreThe rooms were clean, it's in central and bustling area close to basic fruit markets, and an extended area of restos just 15-20 minutes away. The hotel itself is quiet, but as soon as you leave the courtyard has this wonderful turf out-door restaurant and event space. In fact the day we were leaving there was this pretty extravagant wedding. ||Back to the hotel, like I said, the room is clean, had everything we needed. We need a few things like a knife, and help with the wifi, and on one occasion I needed something better than a phone to buy concert tickets, and one of the employees went off and came back with a laptop. The staff were so helpful and friendly. ||Finally, I forgot a battery pack in the room and they shipped it to a friend of mine in China at no cost. ||Just be wary that there is another hotel with the same name nearby; when you are coming in on taxi or perhaps foot, just make sure everything matches up and that even Yonghe Lama Temple is included in the listing you're headed to. ||All in all, 100% amazing stay, would recommend; the price for location, etc. is fantastic. ||Thank you staff at hotel. You guys are so amazing! Thank you for sending me my battery pack. You're all so...
