Mercure Wanshang Beijing — Hotel in Beijing

We were placed in this hotel by our tour company. The hotel was clean, and mostly comfortable. The bed was pretty hard and literally felt like we were sleeping on a wooden board (a bit of a shock the first night, but I guess my back got used to it the remainder of our stay there). The room didn’t have any decent sized drawers that you could put clothes in, so we left our socks, underwear, and kids clothing in our luggage. The bathroom didn’t have a bathtub, but the shower was pretty big and had both a large shower head and handle.||||The breakfast was excellent. It had both Asian and Western foods. I enjoyed a nice bowl of wonton soup and pork dumplings each morning.||||The main issue we had at this hotel was the lack of staff members who spoke English. I understand this is a Chinese hotel, but being in the hotel industry I’d expect them to at least understand the basic words (such as check-in, water, soap). There was only one woman at the front desk that spoke a decent amount of English (I believe her name was Leh), but sometimes I did have to repeat myself when asking her questions. When trying to check-in, the woman who didn’t understand a word of English first just stared at me, then ignored me.||||There is a supermarket about a block away called Carrefour. It’s in the basement of the mall, and is a little hard to find. You have to find the right escalator that will take you down to that floor, the elevators do not go to that floor. Since most people in Beijing don’t speak English, they didn’t seem to understand when we asked for Carrefour, but did understand when we typed in “supermarket” into our...

The property is located on the westerly side of the Capital and this is a very very large capital and the distances are vast. So if you have business on the western side, this is your hotel. I took the airport shuttle #16 from terminal 3 for RMB30 and was deposited right in front of the hotel. The walk from the bus terminal to the hotel is about 200 meters.||||The first thing I noticed on arriving into the hotel is the bouquet of the air freshener which was very very nice. It smelt clean and it was clean. The check in was seamless despite the obvious difficulties in communication. I am regretfully not good in Mandarin and so the English of the reception was sufficient enough to get me checked in.||||My room was on the 4th floor and the standard room was large, well appointed and very clean. The bathroom was large. Some tiles on the bathtub looked loose but I did not use the bath, only the shower which worked well.||||Breakfast was included in my price and the quality and variety of the food was excellent. The service staff were very helpful in the restaurant. ||||Line 1 of the immense Beijing subway line is a 10 minute walk away. Baoji amusement Park or Baoboshan. Beijing West Railway terminal is also a 10 minute drive away.||||There are not many restaurants near by. One Costa Coffee. One KFC and a famous restaurant but thats is. Wanda department store is towards the Baoboshan subway and is vast. I did not visit though.||||So I recommend this hotel if you happen to need to be in Shijingshan. its a great property. Das Hotel Mercure Wanshang Beijing ist ein sehr gutes Hotel. Es liegt zwar nicht sehr zentral in Peking, hat aber durchaus seine Vorteile. Da es in einer Sackgasse liegt, ist es vom Verkehrslärm her eher ruhig, natürlich bezogen auf die Verhältnisse in Peking. Das Hotel besteht aus zwei verbundenen Hälften: A Tower und B Tower. Im A Tower ist die Rezeption mit Lobby und Bar untergebracht. Der Bar angeschlossen ist eine großzügige Sitzlandschaft, unterbrochen durch Wasserbecken. Im B Tower sind der Frühstücksraum und verschiedene Restaurants untergebracht. Außerdem findet man dort auch ein kleinere Geschäfte und diverse Souvenirläden. Das Hotel ist mit vielen Annehmlichkeiten ausgestattet. Direkt angeschlossen ist ein großes Fitnessstudio, mit Spinningabteilung und ein Hallenbad mit Sauna, sowie eine Tennishalle. Die Wege dorthin sollte man sich allerdings an der Rezeption erklären lassen. Die Zimmer sind mit den üblichen gehobenen Standards ausgestattet und sauber und ordentlich. LAN und WLAN sind verfügbar, aber in der Rushhour kommt zu den üblichen chinesischen Verzögerungen noch Wartezeit hinzu. Bei Problemen mit der Internet - Anbindung ist man über die Rezeption gut mit Unterstützung versorgt. Überhaupt ist das Personal sehr hilfsbereit und freundlich. Gegenüber der englischen Sprache ist man hier und da noch etwas zurückhaltend.||Das Frühstück ist SEHR reichhaltig und auch westliche Standards werden durchaus übertroffen.||Im Restaurant habe ich nur Kleinigkeiten wie Sandwiches, Salate, Spagetti und Pizza probiert und war sehr zufrieden. Der Zimmerservice mit diesen Speisen klappt auch hervorragend. Das Hotel ist mit Zwischenstopps, Wochenendgästen, aber auch längeren Aufenthalten gut frequentiert.||Ich würde das Hotel auf jeden Fall empfehlen und gerne wieder besuchen.||Verkehrsanbindung: . In ca. 600m Entfernung ist die U-Bahn Haltestelle „Baijao“ der Linie 1, , von wo aus man in ca. 30 Minuten die Stadtmitte erreicht. Aufladbare Fahrkarten bekommt man nur an der Kasse des nördlichen Ein-/Ausganges mit 20 RNB Pfand und zuzüglich 20 RNB Guthaben. Eine Strecke zur Stadtmitte kostet ca. 6 RNB.
