Pro's: the room was clean despite being older than the Ming Dynasty. The hostel is about 500m from the subway which is convenient. The pets were cute. Sadly, this is all this hostel had going for it. The staff behind the front desk were beyond frustrating as they never acknowledged anyone standing at the front desk and instead were more engrossed in their phones and their endless streams of friends who seemed to come in to visit than their paying customers. We stood in the reception area for at least a full five minutes before we were even acknowledged (no other customers were there) when we came to check in. The staff were not helpful at all and only provided the bare minimum of information. Their English is average which wouldn't have been a problem if they weren't trying to talk to their friends at the same time. ||The internet here is a joke...worst in China and China doesn't really have good internet anywhere. ||Do yourselves a favour and choose another of the multitudes of cheap hostels across Chengdu where the staff actually care about their customers. Definitely the worst accommodation we've stayed in during our weeks of...
Read moreWe had a rollercoaster of a stay here, it definitely has its pros and cons! ||Firstly the location is good, near a station that is well-connected and a few food spots and a mall. ||The hostel itself is pretty good. Nice garden and outdoor area. They put the worldcup on the TV for visitors every night. The rooms seem very old and quite shabby, but they were livable. Beds were also pretty comfy for China. ||They also had a little cafe but were badly stocked when we wanted coffee or breakfast. ||There are some really cute pets that you can play with.||Some staff are friendly and helpful, but most are pretty useless. Wanted advice to get up to Jiuzhaigou area and they flat out told us that we couldn't go. Ignored us when stood at the desk asking questions etc. Figured out a way up to Songpan ourselves, with no help from supposed knowledgable staff. Very frustrating and they were very unhelpful and seemed pissed off every time we asked a question. ||Overall it was a cheap stay and we were pretty content here, minus the staff, but would seek out a better hostel if we...
Read moreThis is a great place to base youurself in the fabulous city of Chegdu, easily one of the higlights of any trip to China.||||Well located, the staff couldn't be more helpful if you want to call a cab, book a trip or find out where to buy snacks. The place is filled with cats and dogs so great if you lov animals but not so if you're allergic and the courtyard garden is a fab place to unwind with a beer or pkay a game of table tennis.||||The crowd tended towards the 18 year old gap year travellers more than some other hostels, although there were a few older travellers and families too. ||||A friendly man at the entrance runs a store selling shampoo, soap, juice and beer but more often than not the staff will hand around a plate of watermelon chunks for free.||||The rooms are comfortable enough but more basic / tired looming compard with other hostels in X'ian or Changsha. However, it's definitely a great base if you're wanting to visit the Panda Research Centre or the fabulous Giant Buddha at Leshan. We fiund our own way to both sites but the hostel will also...
