Clean, comfortable, good location but not downtown. Cab fare from airport around 40 Yuan. To Jinli - 14-18 depending on traffic. Decor is nice, lobby is opulent but over the top - no one needs so many fake flowers and two young ladies with the sole purpose of standing by the door bowing to people all day. Service is great but almost no one speaks English. Everyone is friendly but they do not understand anything you're saying. There is one person on staff i met that could supposedly speak English but she was usually nowhere to be found and when i found her she was polite but almost as helpless as the rest of the staff. The check-in people spoke just enough to take your passport, credit card and tell you the price. Rooms are spacious and luxurious but you can see mild signs of wear on everything, including cigarette burns on conference room carpets. Vast breakfast selection but no decaf, limited fruit, absolutely no options for dietary restrictions. Also no one needs sushi for breakfast. Room service is good but massively overpriced and so is the mini bar. Good amenities - heated high tech toilet with bidet functions, separate shower and tub, huge bed albeit a bit too firm, TV with some English and Russian channels, desk, chairs, coffee and tea, a variety of toiletries, turndown service every other day, towels and toiletries every day, they even make your bed which is completely unnecessary; no iron. Absolutely absurd tech, and i mean ridiculous and not only in a good way. Curtains are tied to the lights - they cannot be open unless the lights are on. Once you press "sleep", good luck resetting the lights back to normal without restarting the system by pulling out the key. Elevators will let you push floor buttons to go to the lobby and the common floors they use for events. The elevator scans your card and automatically selects your floor. You cannot go to another floor, it's infuriating and ludicrous. So if you have friends or colleagues you came with but were given rooms on different floors, you cannot reach them and they cannot reach you, unless you are both present in the elevator or you have both key cards. It's fantastically poorly thought out. Also, the wifi is horrible and when available very unstable. If you have to do any work or access anything via VPN - it's hopeless. It's not a bad hotel by any means but it falls just short in every category. P.S. The same music everywhere in the hotel, it's charming in the beginning but it really gets on your nerves...
Read moreAs many other reviewers pointed out, this is supposed to be one of the top hotels in Chengdu. And it probably is. I stayed in a single room on the 23rd floor. Here are some pros and cons...||||On the plus side:||The room is nice and spacious, with lots of amenities. The breakfast buffet has A LOT of options, even for those who prefer to stick with western options. Those who prefer oriental food for breakfast will be definitely very happy.||||On the negative side:||The room shows not-so-subtle signs of wear. Things go downhill elsewhere. Meeting spaces on the 3rd and 6th floor were pretty horrible. The carpets were covered with cigarette burns and numerous dust bunnies. The staff didn't seem to be interested in vacuuming the floors at all.||||On the weird side:||Room controls! To turn on the lights in the morning, you have to press the button labeled "WARM." Many other controls didn't make much sense either. The elevators will only stop on YOUR floor since you have to swipe your room key to operate it. So, if you want to meet up with a friend on, say, 15th floor, you will need to take the stairs or go to the lobby. The front desk staff (even those who spoke fluent English) would always consult with a manager before giving any information to a non-local, which made me feel weird. On top of this, the hotel staff never replied to any of my pre-arrival inquiries. The nightly turn-down service is a nice touch, but it only occurred twice during my week-long stay with no apparent...
Read moreLocation is good, there are bus stops and metro station nearby. Sichuan uni is next door, so there are lots of dinner options nearby. Hard bed and soft pillows are comfortable, room is clean and spacious. breakfast is excellent...... if you like asian style breakfast, you can have soup, rice and noodle stuff, but not many options for westerners. ||3things to improve. ||1. It’s supposed to be a smart control system to control lights and TV. However it was not well explained. I stayed for 10 nights but still couldn’t turn bathroom light on without waking up by husband. The bidet system too... English explanation!!! ||2. Had a snack at the cafe on arrival, super expensive. We ordered coffee, juice, club sandwich and french onion soup, that costed more than ¥800. They weren’t special but pathetic. French onion soup was like warm chicken stock that has some pieces of onion floating with 2 pieces of stale bread. That was the most expensive and disappointing meal that we had in Chengdu. ||3. Hard to communicate with staff, as there are very few English speaking staff. Even getting a taxi takes a while if we didn’t write the destination in Chinese. And it’s 5star Hotel. ||4. The map that they provide is not useful. ||But I think it’s a good hotel, staff are nice but just can’t speak English, which makes them shy and...
