Grand Bay View International Hotel Dali — Hotel in Dali City

I booked 2 rooms in December 2014 for a three days visit to Dali University. Rooms were large, beds also king size, bathrooms also large & good.||||Reception staff sometime lacked a knowledge of English but that is to be expected as most of the other guests seemed to be Chinese tour groups or Chinese business people. The senior staff at reception were very helpful.||||Breakfast - there was a fantastic selection of food, but when I wanted a spoon for my corn flakes there were only chop sticks. Had to resort to taking a serving spoon from a fruit bowl. Again I rather like eating what the locals eat and there was plenty to choose from. But do not expect what you get in a good European hotel.||||Upstairs cocktail bar was being renovated & not open.||||Nightclub was in a adjoining building.||||Yes there is a Walmart on the other side of the building - and with no access from the hotel. ||||I will be staying there again when I visit in...

Old ghetto hotel. Says they have AC but actually dont. Rooms are good size but bathroom are horrible looks like they tried to renovate and put in a new plastic tub but didn't take the old shower head out. The tub is not flush against the wall and they have cloth shower curtains that are way to long and floors the bathroom of you want to take a shower. There is mold and rust all over the place. There is an AC in the room but it doesn't work. When we asked the front desk their answer is the other rooms on the other side has a lot of wind. There answer is to bring up a broken heating cooling unit. Finally they just brought up a fan. The hotel beds not comfortable and the rooms smell like smoke. I think I was fortunate to stay here on a high floor with upgraded features. ||Room was nice and large, bathroom shower was interesting and placed incorrectly so that water gets every where when you shower. (minor problem). ||The view was amazing to see the skyline from the top floor, that was the highlight of the stay.||Gym and sauna facilities were closed during the day and evening so not sure when they actual open. When I called the receptionist they said it was open but went down again to the gym and could not get access. ||Food was just nothing spectacular.... I was looking forward to something new and different but pretty much had the same dishes for the past week.||||If its just for the night the price is worth it.
