I was part of the US Delegation attending the Chinese Special Olympic Games held in Fuzhou, China. Our delegation stayed in this hotel. ||||The West Lake Hotel originally opened in 1951 and a new section was built onto the hotel within the last 10 years. Our room was in the newer section. We had two full beds, a flat panel TV, a small fridge. The modern bathroom was pleasing to the eye with a large shower area. The room was very comfortable and clean. ||||We ate all of our meals in the smaller dining hall on the first floor and the assistant manager took suggestions and requests from our delegation to satisfy our western tastes. All dishes were freshly prepared and very, very good. The dining room staff was excellent and very attentive to our needs. ||||The room service received was EXCELLENT. Our rooms were serviced 2x per day and by chance we needed anything from the front desk, it was promptly delivered to our room in under two minutes. The front desk staff spoke Chinese but there was usually a manger on hand who spoke English well. The few times the mgt wasn't available, the staff translated our written requests using the computer and took care of our needs. I utilized the hotel laundry service all items were brought back within 24 hours and well packaged. For the small price charged, I was very satisifed.||||If we ever find ourselves in Fuzhou again, I would be happy to stay here. ||||We stayed in the main building but I understand there are approximately 10 buildings in the complex. In the main building there is a tea house, barber shop, business center, wine bar, a restaurant. There is also a swimming pool and the fee to use is 15 RMB per use - you also need to have a swimming cap to use the pool. ||||Our trip to China was amazing and the service we received was beyond expectation. Don't hesitate...

Read moreIt didn't start well - they checked me into room 1107, fine enough... until a man came in. It was his room! Phone calls in Chinese, maid knocking at door speaking Chinese - was moved to room 1108. Thankfully this all happened in the afternoon and I had not unpacked. ||The room was good enough, comfortable beds and linen. Good bathroom towels. OK shower. Meals were all in the dining room - but had to get there early or nothing left! The breakfast was best, lunch nothing left at 12.30, dinner OK. Tried to look for a bar to meet some friends and have a drink - nothing in the hotel. Nearby nothing opened till after 8 pm and it took some considerable efforts just to find a place with a beer. So, overall an OK experience. Don't know if I would return. Nice enough location and things could have been very good....
