The customer service is an absolute mess. If you don't want your holiday completely ruined then book another place to stay in Yangshuo.||||I made a reservation well in advance for 4 nights during the Chinese labor day holiday. 4 days before this reservation was due to start, someone from sudder street called me to confirm everything. All is well. ||||I leave my home and make the long journey to Guilin where I will stay the previous night before arriving at Sudder Street. At 9pm that evening they call me to tell me they messed up and don't have the double room with balcony available for me afterall. I am told that they have the room available for one night then they can move me to a twin room for the remaining three. I say I'm not happy with this arrangement considering everything was confirmed only four days ago. He tells me he will see what he can do and call back in 30 minutes. ||||I wait for over an hour and receive no call back. I try to call them to find that the reception is now closed. I then receive a call from booking.com who tell me sudder street have just contacted them to say that I cannot actually stay there at all now, that they have no rooms and they are offering an "alternative hotel of equal quality". ||||The hotel offered is disgusting, not in anyway equal to sudder street. When I point this out that the standard is not the same, for example there is no swimming pool, I was then lied to. "Sudder street doesn't have a pool either". They changed this tactic the moment I told them I'd stayed there multiple times in the past.||||After hours of calls from booking.com into the middle of the night, I finally give up and go to sleep. First night of my vacation is ruined. ||||After a couple of hours sleep I wake up and call sudder street again. He tells me he didn't call back last night because it was too late! And that since our first call, the rooms that were available have been booked by someone else. I booked 6 weeks ago and cannot stay, but someone who booked hours ago can?! I say This is during a Chinese holiday, everything is sold out weeks in advance, there is no where for us to go! And he tells me there's nothing he can do. ||||After lots of tears, stress, and hours wasted trying to find somewhere with availability at this point, I finally found two hotels that can cover the days in Yangshuo. The price is much much higher than what I had booked at Sudder Street, and I have to move around, but I have no choice but to book and pay. Two days of my five day vacation have been wasted on this stress, I give in and book the other hotels and go straight there.||||On the third day, when I am finally trying to relax, I receive an email. This email says that they now have a room available for me, and they have contacted my current hotel to see if they can cancel my reservation!! The current hotel have told them they would not cancel free of charge, so the email states if I am willing to accept the cancelation fees I can then go and stay at Sudder Street. What an absolute joke!!! I absolutely do not want to stay there anymore, but yet they have contacted my current hotel about cancelling my reservation?! And I should incur the cancelation fees?! On top of the extra room rates I've had to pay in order to have somewhere to stay thanks to the mess that is sudder street. ||||Also worth noting that I have never received anything like an apology from sudder street. In fact they spoke to me and treated me like this situation is my fault. ||||After this situation forcing me to try different hotels in the area I am now fully aware that there are much nicer locations to stay at than here. Don't...
Read moreI stayed in their 4 person dorm - though had the room to myself 2/3 nights, which was nice - and thouroughly enjoyed my stay. It's a little outside the downtown area, which means you get some peace and quiet, but close enough to still be convenient. I used their bike rental services every day, and appreciated having a pool to chill in, which turned out to be a great way to meet other travellers. While the kitchen wasn't open during my stay there, they helped me to order delivery to the hostel, and have a coffee machine, beers, etc. on site. The staff are super lovely and try to be as helpful as possible. I would say some of their knowledge of the area needs to be a bit updated, as they didn't know quite everything I asked about -- however, they do their best to be of use and were so friendly and accommodating. The rooms are clean, comfy, and quiet, and I got a great night's rest for each day's adventures. The common areas are also great for relaxing, with a lovely backyard with a fire pit and mountain/farm views, and fooseball and board games inside. Will...
Read moreI can really recommend Sudder street guesthouse.||It is not in the center of Yangshuo, but don’t even think of booking a hotel over there! The noise and crowds are terrible!||You can use the free bikes after 17h to go there ( or rent it for a whole day for only 10Y) but you will be so glad to return to this ho(s)tel.||The view from the room with a window from floor to ceiling is like a chinese painting, the pool is so relaxing and don’t forget the shared meal they serve for only 25 Y each night!||We got 11 different dishes and it was the best meal we had in 3 weeks China!||The staff is very helpfull and they speak English very well.||And you can you do your laundry for free, they even provide detergent.||Prices of drinks are also very cheap.||The best tip I can give is to rent a brand new electric scooter from a chinese hotel 50 m on the right towards the center. They have a great umbrella attached to sit in the shade all day and the battery goes on at least 60 km.||At that only fot 60Y a day! So forget the bike!||(Sorry to say but the one from the hotel...
