Wan Tai West campsite is about a 10-15 minute walk up a slight gravel incline from its sister campsite, Wan Tsai South. It is a large field surrounded by trees with its own toilet and reasonable shower facilities (the water was nice and cold today - very handy in the heat!) Wan
There are large bins for you to put your rubbish in at the entrance to the field. Please do so as it's very disappointing and indeed selfish to leave it behind for others to clean up your mess!
There were about 5 other groups camping last night so there is plenty of space if you want some privacy. (Wan Tsai South was quite full, in comparison). Noise carries at night however; something our neighbours did not appreciate as they shouted continuously from 9pm till around 5am. Please keep the noise down so others can sleep!
The sun rises from the hill behind the entrance and so it is probably a good idea to camp on the side of the field directly to your right as you enter the campsite. Otherwise in the morning you will be hit by the full force of the sun. I made the mistake of pitching my tent on the other side of the field, which was shady when I arrived in the late afternoon. But this morning it was so hot it woke me up at 7am. By 8am, as I packed my things away, I was so hot sweat was literally pouring off me. At 8am!!!
As other reviewers have said, the field is populated by cows who will attempt to eat your food if they become aware of it: the campers cooking next to ours got raided by a marauding cow and were unable to stop it - a little bit of karma for having been so noisy.
There is a small sandy beach which is accessible from Wan Tsai South. The water was clear and it looked safe for children, although I didn't get a chance to check it out in person. There is no shop/convenience store that I could find, though I have read elsewhere that there is.

Toliet facilities are readily available nearby. Cows and pigs will invade part of the campsite spontaneously, but overall still a good campsite...
