We have stayed in many Shangri-La properties over the years. This hotel provided the most heartwarming experiences. It is a beautiful hotel with Tibetan design. There was even an oxygen room in case of need. ||Upon checked-in, we were greeted by Becky who was extremely friendly and caring. She asked about our departure time and if there was a need for late-check out and airport send-off. She then explained the complimentary local and cultural activities to make sure we have a good experience. ||We chose the making of milk tea and food market visit from a long list. And each activity pleasantly surprised us. We wished we had longer time to enjoy other activities. Rose took care of us for the first activity (the activity was just for two of us). She helped to dress us in beautiful ethnic costumes and taught us the ways of making milk tea and Tibetan cake. She then sang a Naxi song for us. She had a beautiful voice. This wonderful cultural experience would last for our lifetime. ||A staff showed us to the food market the following morning. Both my husband and myself had little experience in buying raw food, so we randomly picked a few stuff. We brought the stuff to the restaurant and discussed with Chef Li who miraculously suggested 4 dishes and one soup. It was the most delicious meal we had in our Yunnan trip. The refined quality of cooking was of first class, comparable to the Chinese restaurants at the top Shangri-La hotels in Hong Kong, Beijing and Shanghai. The service provided by the restaurant staff was also commendable. Everyone is friendly and helpful especially Bruce and 余香茸姆. Not to mention the price was beyond reasonable. ||In summary, this was the most heartwarming Shangri-La property we have ever been. I just wish more guests will stay in this hotel and enjoyed their good services. One recommendation: leave more time at the hotel to appreciate their complimentary...

Read moreStayed two nights in early December. Property is lovely and well-maintained with lots of Tibetan touches, and a nice respite from the bitter cold outside. The oxygen room is a lovely amenity to have, we even saw some Chinese guests having their afternoon tea inside the room. The hotel is right behind a local shopping street and a 20-minute walk from the old town. We also saw a lot of mountain bikes in the hotel—perhaps available for rental, though winter was not the season for biking outdoors.||Our room on the 9th floor came with a humidifier as well as a smart Xiaomi kettle which allowed us to consistently have a source of warm drinking water in the room. All of this, again, were a lovely respite from the dryness of winter. One quibble is that the bathroom is far too dimly lit which makes putting on make-up rather difficult.||A special mention for the staff at Ani's Kitchen—we had dinner there and opted for the a la carte menu. Because the restaurant is mainly a buffet restaurant at night, the staff did let us know that the wait would be longer, and they very kindly gave us a plate of assorted fruits from the buffet spread while we waited. When we were done with our meal, both the male managers again offered us complimentary plates of fruit. It was a nice touch of hospitality and kudos to the managers (who worked both the breakfast and dinner shifts) for running a tight ship.||Finally, we found the breakfast spread a tad disappointing, though your mileage may vary depending on your enjoyment of the Asian buffet offerings (porridges and soup noodles). There were enough international foods (fried eggs, hash browns, bacon, pastries) but a little limited considering Shang's status as a five-star hotel chain. The spread also offered a taste of Tibetan specialities like yak butter tea and...
