I do not consider this to be a 4 star hotel. I think 3 stars are more appropriate. Although they also try to be an international hotel they don't succeed very well at that.||||The room was quite small. It had the basic features, but not like what you would expect for a 4 star hotel.||||For example, there was a work desk, but the regular chair was too low and totally unfit to use with a laptop for more than 30-60 minutes. There was a PC at the desk, but I didn't use it. Internet access was free, but no Wi-Fi. Unless you bring your own router you need to sit at the desk using the uncomfortable chair. ||||There was no mini-bar, but a small empty fridge instead. It wasn't clean upon arrival though and not cleaned after the first day. A call to the reception solved this, but it makes one wonder how thorough the rooms are checked and cleaned. The small safe had a shelf and was suitable for small valuables, but not for a laptop.||||The bathroom was small, but sufficient. A bath tub with a shower and the usual amenities. ||||The windows could be opened, but not 100% closed. As a result, the city noise was too loud and mosquitoes could also get in.||||Although the room was non-smoking, it didn't smell very clean and fresh. I'm not a big fan of carpets in hotel rooms, unless kept spotlessly clean. That was not the case here. There were several stains in the carpet and it didn't look all that clean as a result. The net curtains were white a long time ago and also had some holes in it. Overall it made a dirty impression.||||This is a pity because the furniture, although somewhat worn out, and decorations look nice. With a new carpet, or even better, a wooden floor and new curtains, the room would not only be cleaner, but also look much better.||||The breakfast buffet was included in the room rate. It was clearly more targeted towards the traditional Chinese food, but there was sufficient for a Western style breakfast as well. The bread was very good, but the cheese wasn't. It was left in the open without cooling and I didn't even dare trying it. The coffee looked like water and I discarded it, but when I pointed this out, I got a freshly made speciality coffee so that was nice. In addition to the Chinese food, there was also a limited choice of cereals, cold milk, several types of fruit juices, fried egg, bacon and fresh fruit. ||||The staff was friendly, but wasn't always very alert. For example, it happened several times that they would not properly clean the tablecloth before putting the placemats on it. ||||The dinner buffet was very disappointing and not worth the 118 RMB. Putting french fries in a bowl without heating so they'll be cold is just one example this hotel doesn't really get it when it comes to Western style food.||This wasn't the only thing of course. For a reason beyond me, only half the heaters were used. As a result most warm dishes were either lukewarm only, or cold. Desert included ice-cream, but it was put in two bowls at the start of the buffet and only with a little bit of ice cubes around them. Clearly not sufficient and it started to melt soon after the buffet had started. ||Although the buffet starts at 6pm, the noodles and beef part did not really start until 6:30pm. I don't understand why they were not ready at the start of the buffet.||||As a side comment for coffee lovers, there is no Starbucks or Costa Coffee in Lanzhou. I only saw some local Chinese style coffee shops, but those tend to serve a small cup of coffee at a high price, since most people stay there for a long time to have a meeting for example. ||||I did find a little gem though. It is called "The Blue Bottle" and is a tiny coffee shop, but with excellent coffee and a variety of choices. The prices are very reasonable too. It is about 25 minutes away by foot, but worth the walk. You can find it on a big street called Jin Chang Bei Lu. Walking from the hotel it is on the right hand side, squeezed in between two telco shops. It is really small though and easy to miss.||||Putting everything together, I think this hotel is more of a 3 star typical Chinese hotel, but with sufficient effort in training the staff, gaining more understanding what Western guests would appreciate and more investment to modernize the rooms could be a truly 4 star...

Read moreThe staff at front desk are non responsive to any of your questions. And they simply don't know how to communicate. They let people cut the line while you are checking out. And when you reason, they would say" they're checking the room now, you have to wait!"||The AC in my first room was not working. At night they changed me to another room which has the same problem. After almost one hour, they finally gave me an upgrade to a slightly bigger room. And the manager didn't even say anything when he left!||I waited for room at front desk because the room was not cleaned. But the front desk just gave me the room keys and told me to put the luggage inside myself!||I sent a coat for pressing in the morning, and went to sleep with the DND light on. When the coat is ready, the staff knocked at my door for like two minutes! And after I ignored her, she called my room and asked me to open the door! ||After she woke me up, I called the manager's line very angry. But the front desk picked up, said the manager was busy and they would tell him about this matter. But then, nothing ever happened until I check out. Nobody even left an apology note in my room!||This is definitely not a four star hotel. It might be fine if you're just looking for a plain inn where you don't expect much.||Still I would like to thank the housekeeping staff. They are polite and...
