I chose this hotel simply because of the view it offers, and also, because it is the only Hyatt-affiliated hotel in Lijiang. I stayed here for four nights and as a globalist, they actually gave me a very generous upgrade to a huge suite with a gorgeous balcony that looks out into jade dragon snow mountain. ||However, note the name of this hotel as the other hotel on TripAdvisor that also has this name but with Mountain Lodge, is NOT part of Hyatt! That is actually ANOTHER JINMAO HOTEL IN THE JADE DRAGON SNOW MOUNTAIN NATIONAL PARK. If you don’t read Chinese, please save the proper Chinese name of this hotel from the Hyatt website and use it when getting around because if not, you’ll be definitely be sent to the wrong hotel, and because that is in a national park, security is going to be extremely tight||Although the hotel is not brand new and certain elements do show its age, I still think that it is very well maintained, but manage your expectations as it is not in the modern decor. Think dark wooden earthy tones and dim lights. My favorite element of the room the car was actually the rocking chairs – one in the living room, and another one that is very comfortable in the balcony.||My suite had a huge separate walking closet that is opposite a huge dual-sink bathroom with separated, toilet (no bidet), shower, and bathtub. Toiletries were actually from Karl Lagerfield, and they actually smell very good. They also provided a lot of bottled water – four at the Nespresso machine, two in the bathroom, and during turned down two by your bed. ||Comfort wise, the bedding felt like a normal standard Hyatt mattress - it wasn’t very plush and felt more on the firm side. Pillows were OK and did their job pretty well. ||The highlight of this hotel is definitely the beautiful compounds it has with a small pond in the middle - with a beautiful Chinese style pavilion tea house that has the majestic mountain in its backdrop. It is also very easy to get a Didi when staying here and you can get to the nearest Ancient towns of Shu He and Baisha easily - both around 10minutes away. The distance from the train station to here around 30 minutes and if you need to get to the airport is around 45 minutes, and to get to the UNESCO Lijiang ancient town, it takes around 20 minutes. You can also reach the mountain easily with this hotel’s location, but when I stayed there, they had a freak March snow (the last time it snowed in March was actually in 2005) which caused the mountain to close so I wasn’t able to make it there.||I highly recommend this hotel if you are a Hyatt enthusiast or someone who loves to stay in a classic Chinese style hotel. If your main priority is to be near Lijiang ancient town than the hotels there might be better suited for you but what I love about this location is that that other two ancient towns are very near here and those two towns are actually more rustically...
Read moreI stayed at this hotel in August 2024 during a family trip. Although it is not situated in the historic center of the city and requires the use of taxis to reach most destinations, the hotel offers more spacious rooms and is located away from the tourist areas, which creates a much more tranquil atmosphere. The hotel features extensive facilities, with rooms spread across different buildings. It also provides its own internal transport for moving around the hotel and handling luggage, which was greatly appreciated given the large amount of baggage we had. Overall, I was quite pleased with the cleanliness and spaciousness of the rooms, as cleanliness is not always guaranteed in five-star hotels in this country. The rooms have large windows that allow ample natural light, and the lighting is well-designed.
The breakfast buffet offered a rich variety of options, including an assortment of beverages, fruits, yogurts, and more, catering well to both Western and Chinese guests.
However, there were two significant disappointments. Firstly, we chose this hotel with the expectation of dining several times on-site, as its website advertised numerous restaurants, including one serving Western cuisine. To our dismay, upon arrival we were informed at the reception that only the hot pot restaurant was open. We dined there, but the quality of the food did not justify the 60€ spent, leading us to opt for dining outside the hotel for the rest of our stay.
Secondly, the behavior of certain guests was simply unacceptable and uncomfortable. On multiple occasions, the reception restroom was filled with tobacco smoke due to guests smoking there, which led me to avoid using the reception restrooms and instead return to my room. It should be clearly stated that such behavior is not acceptable in a hotel of this standard.
Additionally, one afternoon at the pool, I witnessed a woman who, after swimming for 15 minutes, approached the poolside and spat there in front of us, making an unpleasant and disgusting sound during the process. Consequently, I chose not to use the pool after this incident.
While these issues are related to individual behavior rather than the hotel's management, they negatively impacted my experience and I felt it necessary to share them in...
Read moreWe had a lovely stay at Jinmao Purelax Lijiang, The Unbound Collection by Hyatt. We were there during early June. The view from the room was amazing. It was wonderful to wake up to the Yu Long Snow Mountain every morning with a cool breeze.Breakfast was a good spread of traditional Chinese fare and international staples. We look forward to having good breakfasts every morning. The staff even packed for us breakfast when we departed earlier than the breakfast time for our day tour of Yu Long Snow Mountain. While overall, it was a good experience, there were some quirks, that we felt were slightly below our expectations befitting a Hyatt branded hotel. There wasn’t a proper mini fridge. We had to request for one. And it was not functioning properly - we eventually had to ask the staff to keep our medical items with their staff who delivered to our doorstep upon request, promptly. The air-conditioning was also controlled centrally and we could not adjust the temperature despite having a controller in our room. We were advised by the staff to keep the netted balcony doors open to let the fresh air in. But it was not possible when we sleep due to the bright light and the room was warm. The other freebies made up for the overall experience at Jinmao. We had a wonderful complimentary photoshoot at Bo Jue Travel Photography studio which was conveniently located within the hotel’s premises. The staff there were friendly, professional and made the photo shoot fun and enjoyable. We upgraded the package as the photographers and DI artists made fantastic work indouble quick time.We also had a complimentary Pu’ Er Tea tasting session where we were greeted by a warm and attentive lady, Ah Qing. She was a great conversationalist and we enjoyed her company. We also checked out other features like the petting zoo, indoor swimming pool and the sauna. There are also many family friendly activities to participate in - there are plenty of opportunities to play within the premises!Jinmao Purelax Lijiang may not be the shiniest and newest hotel but this grand dame is a wonderful place for folks of all ages to play, relax and soak in the sights of what Lijiang...
