When we arrived here we felt welcome, and after that the service was consistently good and the quality of the hospitality across the whole spectrum put a lot of other 4 stars to shame. This is going to be a really positive review.||||We found this an excellent mid-range hotel. Open since mid 2013 on the edge of Lake Ai Xi in Nanchang, its rooms are sensibly designed, well appointed, clean and well kept. We had trouble-free internet connections with wifi and ethernet, and there is a very convenient 24 hour ATM that accepts all major cards on the ground floor; this meant we didn’t have to race around and find banks and saved a lot of time. The hotel business centre also offers a wide range of services and staff throughout the hotel are friendly and ready to listen should you have a request. While finding English speakers is sometimes a problem there are dedicated English speaking staff who are never far away and once again the warmth and friendliness of these people was notable for me.||||The food is excellent in the hotel restaurant which offers extensive breakfast and dinner buffets catering to Chinese and Western cuisines that are good value for money. Besides this there are the full range of banquet and conference rooms of different sizes usual in this sort of hotel. There is also a well appointed gym and you can use hotel bikes (free with a security deposit) to ride the 14 kilometres around the lake. There is a swimming pool, but this is only open during summer months.||||A really nice space in the hotel is the lounge area between the lobby and the ground floor restaurant. This is a great space with lots of comfortable seating to relax with a cup of coffee (good coffee machine at this hotel) and a wifi connection and catch up on emails or meet guests for business before heading off to dinner. There is also a cosy music bar across the hallway.||||This hotel is a little out of the way in Nanchang, but this can be a virtue given the pleasant environment and general peace and quiet, so at odds with the perpetual rush hour at hotels generally in Chinese cities. In any case it was never a problem for us - the hotel staff worked hard to get taxies and there are hotel vehicles for hire. We never had a problem getting a taxi, nor did we have to wait long for one to arrive. The hotel arranged for my airport taxi and that was a helpful service.||||This hotel made me think of a difference between service as a duty and service as a commitment - the former being not much more than turning up for a job and the latter being part of a dedicated team. You get a team trying to improve itself at this hotel and this is a reflection on its management - good teams are hard to build and they are growing one. ||||Our work is taking us to many hotels across China, and we generally stay for about a month in each. If you are on a business budget in Nanchang this hotel really stood out for us as one of the best ones. We felt curiously at home from the moment we came to the Grand Skylight Hotel and we had...

Read moreStayed here with a local supplier, which got round any language issues. We arrived in the evening and left early in the morning so I did not get much impression of the surroundings, but there appeared to be a lot of building work going on (no surprises there).||||The room was large and clean as was the bathroom. I had a comfortable night stay.||||In the evening we had a buffet meal in the small restaurant next to the lobby. It was a mixture of western and Chinese food and was of good quality, with some nice touches with the pastries and desserts. They were also cooking fresh barbecue style food which was good. ||||I have stayed in many Chinese hotels which make no compromises to western travellers, but this hotel was fine, and would be accessible for...
