CHINA公社文化艺术酒店 — Hotel in Qingdao

Walk to the hotel was farther than expected...part of our group found a coffee shop to relax...others ventured onward to check-in. The first part of our group did not wait at the coffee shop as discussed and got lost on the way to the hotel. I want to commend staff manager Joyce for the help she provided. She was only able to get one of two taxis that we needed. Another staff member (did not get her name) volunteered to drove us in her personal car to locate the first part of our group. Joyce and the other staff members went out of their way to help us. Everyone was friendly and gracious.||||My room was OK...smaller than I expected though. The towels are thin and need to be replaced with thicker ones. Couch in the sitting area was a nice touch. Yes, if you would feel comfortable to live in a giant mushroom - constantly enjoying the smell of mold - this is your place to be.||Me and my husband booked two nights for 1000RMB, we were so disappointed when checking in. The dense smell of mold covers the entire room. Why all the good reviews before, we wondered?||We asked for a different room but were asked to pay 140RMB extra, per night. For that price we could've stayed somewhere far less... moldy! The husband got mad and then our front desk guy suddenly deducted the price to 60RMB extra, apparently getting mad will get you a more decent price.||All in all, yes the interior looks artsy. Yes, it might be a nice location, in this full of restaurants street. But honestly, to pay this price to live in a mold smelling place? No, thank you! I don’t think I won any friends with my Chinese suppliers as the hotel is in the middle of the city and far away from the industrial north and north east. However, I liked it a lot as it try’s to provide something different and cultural at a very good price point. I try and do under $60 a night as a challenge and this was under $50, including breakfast! ||The design is interesting and all the crafts at the ground floor offer excellent quality shopping of traditional Chinese items with a modern twist.||I went to the restaurant the one night - treated by a supplier so I don’t know the cost - and the food was amazing.
