Holiday Inn Express Qingdao Chengyang Central — Hotel in Qingdao

Off to a bad start. Only one person on the desk when I went to check in so had to wait. No recognition of being a Platinum member, no welcome drink was offered so I assumed I would get the welcome points, didn't get them either. Did not get an upgraded room, I a low rate for the room and there were only about 3 others at breakfast so it could not have been full. I was given a North facing room on the sixth floor so had an excellent shaded view of the air con plant on the 5th floor roof. Also could open the window due to the noise. Went to breakfast the second day at 9.20 am and was picking at scraps. Bread was stale and the fruit was all tinned except for the melon, seriously how much effort is it for the chef to cut up some fruit!!! The guy on the next table started smoking and several staff members walked past him and did nothing. Its not like the couldn't have noticed him as he also had his shirt half off too!

Gym picture on the IHG does not match the actual equipment that is there.

Will not even entertain going back until service is fixed.

Where are my welcome points?

The staff in this hotel are amazing every single one of them will go out of their way to try help you. They helped us with food, with clothes washing, they even kept our luggage for 2 days when we had to check out to go to a different city and come back.

they even accepted a package on our behalf while we were away. And the hotel manager Kirk is an amazing guy who always is there to assist you.

This is the first time I stayed in an IHG hotel in China and the overall experience was excellent compared to the other properties within APAC. The staff did recognise the IHG reward membership at check-in and offered the room upgrade and fruit platter as an IHG gold member. The food selection at breakfast is great and the dish is delicious. The staff is attentive and helpful. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who would like to visit Chengyang District in Qingdao. The price is very reasonable with a buffet...
