During our tour of Qingdao, we stayed in multiple hotels (a different hotel each night in fact), and one of the first hotels we stayed in was the Huiquan Dynasty Hotel.||||The hotel is a stones throw from the beach, which is great for those wanting that stroll on the sand - we didn't, as it was like 2C at night and with a chilling wind, but I imagine I would have in the summer months.||||The hotel itself wasn't too bad at all, a typical hotel room in China in a moderate hotel, it was a comfy room, spacious, with good beds, and a view of the beach. It was a comfortable night's rest.||||Unfortunately, where it fell absolutely flat was with the breakfast. It was pretty disgusting if I'm honest, though admittedly, this may be due to me being a highly Westernised Chinese, but then others in our party (from Guangzhou) felt the same.||||Breakfast was a buffet, but there was very little that I could eat. There were containers full of pickled veg, cold boiled eggs, leftover noodles and rice from the night before (it seems) served lukewarm/cold, limp browning salad (who has a salad for breakfast man?), and not a cereal or toast in sight. Oh, cold French fries were also being offered - in fact, we were offered cold French fries or shredded cold/raw potato throughout our stay in Shandong, so I assume it's a "thing" there.||||Anyway, as it is, the food let the place down terribly, BUT, the room itself was pretty good if I'm honest. So definitely stay here if you're in the area, but maybe go out and find something else to eat for breakfast, as it was truly...
Read moreI was really disappointed with my stay at this hotel again. I stayed here for the first time a year ago in June for Dragon Boat Festival and it was fantastic. So I decided to stay here for May 1st holidays. Unfortunately that turned out to be a huge mistake. During the day in Qingdao during this time the weather is good between 22-25 degrees Celsius but still cold at night between 13-15 degrees. For me the heat needs to be on but to my horror there was no heat, only cold air. So I ended up getting sick. On top of that it didn't matter if it was breakfast or dinner, the buffet food was cold. The only hot food was something made in front of you like an omlet. Even before I found out all this, when I got to my room it wasn't what I paid for. I paid for the multi-level suite. I still had a suite but I have no idea if the cost was at least the same and I didn't care for it. The bed was great though but even with another blanket on top didn't keep me warm enough with no heat...
Read moreOld shabby hotel catering to visiting local tourists, mainly. If you're a foreigner, the drivers of the cabs waiting outside the Hotel will rip you off 20-30 yuan unless you pay attention to the meter and immediately yell at them in case of overcharge. (Almost) noone at the check-in desk speaks English unless you chance on a manager. There're two teenage consierge boys at the main entrance, who boss the incoming patrons around and tell them how to live. The restaurant prices are on a par with those at Shangri-La hotel, but with far fewer choices and lower in cooking quality. The only BIG advantage if you're a swimmer like myself: a former German "Kaiser" swimming beach is right accross the road. It's now callled "Bathing Beach 1." Awesome for doing non-stop laps for an hour. And even then: you can easily get to the beach by metro from any other Qingdao hotel. Just get off at Huiquan Square (Line 3) and come out...
