The location in the absolute centre of the Old Town of Quanzhou is excellent. Adjacent/very close to Baiyuan Pool park (百源清池), Confucius Temple (府文庙) with puppet theatre next door (府文庙夫子泉茶馆), Tumen Street (涂门街) with its lively Guandi-temple (通淮关岳庙) and less lively but ancient mosque (清淨寺), Houcheng historical lane (后城街; don't miss the teahouse located in a beautiful old courtyard at No 122: 古厝茶坊), Zhongshan Rd (中山路) arcaded shopping street, Chengtian temple (承天寺), and of course old West Street (Xi Jie; 西街) with the huge Kaiyuan temple (开元寺) and Twin Pagodas. ||||Good value for money even if the rooms are getting somewhat old. But you also get what you expect - a good ol' standard room layout with standard amenities. No fancy glass wall toilets here! Clean and adequately maintained rooms, and efficient service. No luxury however. ||||Since the overwhelming majority of foreigners visiting QZ are actually Overseas Chinese, it helps if you speak a little Chinese in the hotel and around town. ||||Pay a few yuan extra to stay in a room on the top floors. Slightly better quality and much better views.||||So-so breakfast but ok. Excellent restaurant if you want to arrange a huge party, less so if you are alone or just a...
Read moreI stayed here on a business trip for one night. The room was clean and comfortable although a bit worn around the edges. They give you fresh fruit and plenty of water bottles in the room. The shower has good water pressure. ||||The hotel is in a great area - I am sorry I didn't have time to walk around more and explore! - near cafes, shops, bakeries, the ubiquitous Pizza Hut and the old mosque, which is worth a stop. ||||Best of all, the hotel was right next door to an awesome restaurant called Cullinan with an espresso bar (yay!! amazing what little things like finding a good iced coffee near your hotel will do for your mood) and very good food. ||||I didn't have breakfast at the hotel so can't vouch for that, if it is even included in the room price. I also don't know how much the rooms were as I didn't have to pay for it myself. So, for fellow travelers, I would say that if you find yourself in that area and the price is reasonable, this is a good, solid...
Read moreExcellent location! It's literally at the centre of the old town. The hotel is right next to Fuwenmiao, within five minutes walk from Islamic mosque, and really close to Gucuo Tea House where you can easily spend half your day there just having traditional Chinese tea. The hotel is surprisingly new considered that it has been running for almost 40 years already, it used to be a famous local hotel that served oversea Chinese who came back China in the 80s. Oversea Chinese Hotel was the highest building in Quanzhou and it's certainly a hotel of great history, but their room is pretty clean and spacious (by the standard in China), it even came with a personal desktop computer in the room. It provides free buffet breakfast of high quality too, I was very satisfied with our...
