I had fairly high expectations when I got to this location, but unfortunately the standard was fairly low. It might be due to the fact that covid has affected this area. The maintaining of the hotel wasn't great. Our bathroom door was broken, the sofa pillows had dirty spots on them, the pool chairs are all covered in dirt, people were smoking in the elevators not taking it into consideration that there are a lot of kids here, and other people that doesn't want to inhale smoke for that matter.. I spoke to the reception about the smoking and they Confirmed it isn't legal, but they didn't have anyone to take care of the matter so nothing they could do if someone were to smoke. The swimming pools around as well as in the water park were all very cold, a lot of dirty pools in the water park too. Because of the cold unpleasant to swim unless it was very sunny. The Breakfast was a disaster. Too crowded with people and just very basic chinese food. We ended up only eating raw vegetables and fruit the one time we went. We were also told a bedrail or a crib would be arranged for our daughter, but that didn't happen. We ended up using the sofa in the room to create some sort of barrier to assure she wouldn't fall out the bed and hit the hard floor. The Restaurants around at the time all took 40 minutes or more to serve us anything, repeatedly forgetting drinks and dishes, despite the fact that there was barely any people there. The portions are fairly small as well and quite pricy considering. We ended up just ordering online instead from other restaurants. It was nice our Daughter had a big play place to enjoy at least, the large one they have on site indoors. Besides that, I do regret choosing this location. It was for our Daughter, but unfortunately not much around she could enjoy properly. The smell of urine when you walk around is a bit off putting as well, many kids pee on the streets, as well as right next to the roof top sandpit. I Understand it's hard to control kids needing to go to the bathroom, but because of this it would have been nice if the hotel chose to raise the standard of their overall cleaning. Also a little bit inconvenient that the rooms only have one chair on the balconies. Fairly quiet when you're in the room, that was...
Read moreWe initially stayed at the Mangrove Tree Resort for 5 nights, but subsequently extended it by another 4 nights. We really liked the resort, it is perfect for families with its water park (we had two tickets included for each day of our stay), they had an on-site soft play area for kids (needs to be paid for). They had a Street Food road with 10+ restaurant/food stall options, all at local prices. They had an on-site Starbucks, numerous other coffee shops, an on-site KFC, and most importantly a 24/7 Lawson convenience store (a Japanese combini chain) with prices lower than the shops located outside the resort.
I'm not sure why there are so many negative reviews based on the 5* hotel rating, we paid £30 for a 800 sq ft family room, which had a bedroom and a living, plus a balcony. It included all the amenities. Yes, parts of the resort and rooms need a refurb that I agree with. But for the price, the size and comfort of the rooms, the price point is not 5*. I'm not sure where where in the world you'd pay £30 ($45) and expect the world of luxury without the price tag of minimum £150 ($200+) for a much smaller room. Those who are making such a comparison are a bit deluded and aren't taking the price difference into consideration. For the price you are paying, this is far more than you'd get anywhere else, period. If you want more luxury then pay up for it, it's as simple as that.
We booked 3 rooms, 5 adults and two children (3 & 6 years old). The kids had a fantastic time at the water parks and artificial beach (with wave machine no less). If it's raging you can walk around the on-site shopping centre, no need to set foot outside. There are also numerous swimming pools for guests to enjoy. The resort is 10 minutes away from the very large night market and same distance away from the beach. The location is very good.
I highly recommend the resort for families for its convenience, and the fact that you don't need to spend much day to day. The on-site restaurants and street food is comparable to those outside, so you're not overspending like at genuine 5* hotels, where prices are 3-4x for food and drinks. Yes, the resort is in some bed of some TLC, but for the price it can be overlooked. We'll certainly be back as it's a great place...
Read moreSome friends and I stayed here whilst visiting China. The important thing to understand about the Mango Tree is that it is more than a hotel, it is a resort in the city. ||||The hotel has blocks of accommodation encompassing a water park. Below the hotel accommodation is a massive shopping mall that stretches all the way around the venue.||||The rooms are excellent and well decorated and maintained. We were in one of the towers next to reception, so it was n’t far to walk. You often see the staff zipping back and forth on ‘segways’ because of the shear size of the hotel.||||There are numerous restaurants at the Mango Tree catering to all tastes. ||||To help with your stay here are a few ideas.||||At reception very few (I didn’t meet any) staff speak English. However this was not an issue as they all have smart phones which they use to translate their voice for you. If you are visiting China it’s worth having a smart phone for translating (Siri accomplished this well). There are apps the can also scan the menu or pictures to help translate.||||There was wifi available through out the hotel. The sockets in the hotel rooms accept ordinary UK 13amp plugs as well as other types.||||If you are coming to Sanya, consider bringing cash (converted at your home airport) as there was only one ATM accepting European debt cards at the hotel (that I could find) and that ran out of cash on day two of our stay.||||You can walk from the hotel into town, or have them call you a cab (they are a reasonably cheap way to get around). Your keycard folder has the hotel address on, so show that to the taxi driver to get back.||||Breakfast is a vast array of food served buffet style. There are all varieties of food on offer, with chefs cooking dishes to order. You will have to hunt out or ask for a knife, as only spoons and forks are set for breakfast.||||The rooms have safes in them and all the rooms I sawed balconies with a view of Sanya.||||The Mango Grove is very suitable as a base...
