Amazing and grand, this is what I can say about the interior especially the chandeliers, lamps and decors used for this hotel. As a hotelier, for me as long as this hotel is going to be well-maintained, this could last for at least 10 more years. It's quite majestic especially the lobby and hallways.||Check-in was smooth. Though room rate is quite expensive if you are in a budget. But if you want to give a little for grandeur then you are in the right place.||For me they only have to improve on room maintenance since I saw already stain in the headboard and white dusts are a plenty in the corners and top areas also. I also noticed that Housekeeping didn't do any sweeping and vacuum for the 5 days that we spent in the room. Aircon was calibrated and it is kind of hot inside the room so we have to open the veranda sliding door in order to have some cool air. The only problem is that dust and quite a little of smog along with a few mosquitoes come in also. My colleague had a share of allergies and rhinitis. Also to mention since I don't speak and know Chinese, the tv was not used since it's all Chinese everywhere, movies has additional pay.||But some of the nuisance in the room or even the papers&crumbs in the hallways not cleaned for around 24 hours, this hotel has one of the best bed I slept in a hotel along with their soft & crisp linens. I can sleep like a baby.||But the housekeeping staff are nice and toiletries are replenish daily even the slippers and laundry bag. They are quick to response to request except that they forgot to bring the pillow that lessen the allergy and was not explained why they offered it in the first place but we didn't again make a fuss out of it.||Daily buffet breakfast is a treat for heavy eaters since they offer a lot of varieties but mostly you can feel the China vibe with food but no complaints since I am very much satisfied. Dining staff are a few but also nice.||Check-out was a breeze again. To top it all the Front Desk and the Bell Service (Concierge) are very accommodating in writing all the places we wanted to go and see in Chinese character to help us with the taxi drivers.||I hope to bring my family here someday but better airconditioning. The WIFI is also great here though really I had to use my mobile data since some app is not working in China that well including major social media and chat apps which I need for the office. Though the wechat was also very convenient.||Loved my stay. Will...

Read moreI was here for three nights last night. The hotel claims to be a top hotel, but there are lots of things wrong with it. I'll try to be fair. It is marble heavy but service light. To get to breakfast, or to the bar, you have to take a circuitous route, underserved by signs. For example, if you are staying in one of the rooms in the main block, you take the lift to the ground floor and presume it is easy to get to breakfast. That's a big mistake. If you get off at the ground floor, and head out of the hotel to get to breakfast by walking outside, avoiding the traffic, it takes you to a tea room that serves as a bar in the evening, and you can't get to the breakfast room. Instead, you should take the lift to the basement, where you walk along a dark corridor. If you want a drink, you go to the tea room, where the bar closes so early that you may as well not bother and take a cab into central Shanghai. We asked reception when the bar closed - reception said at 11PM. No - it closes far earlier. We were redirected to the spa (mistake - bar), which closes at 1PM. ||||As for the room itself, it was certainly spacious but you felt cut off from the rest of the hotel. There's marble everywhere but lots of places where you might fall and trip over - we were extra cautious and watched our step.||||The staff were as helpful as they could be - I have no Chinese - but like a previous reviewer I found the cleaning staff more helpful than the reception staff. I would not recommend this hotel to my worst enemy - actually I would recommend it to my worst enemy. ||||There were few facilities in my room, but the gas masks in my room failed to inspire me with confidence.||||I can't fault the staff. They tried to be helpful. But given the lack of a hotel map or a compass, I would recommend people stay in another hotel...
