The hotel is old, and the lobby is small. Some promotional materials in the elevator are visibly damaged. I can't believe the hotel is revamped in 2021. My room is small, and cleanliness could be improved, though all the necessary amenities are provided.
The check-in process could have been faster due to the reception needing help to locate my booking. Many IHG hotels print the booking details out, but this one didn't. The apparent lack of staff meant each receptionist had to juggle multiple tasks simultaneously.
On the positive side, the hotel's location, although distant from the city centre, is conveniently just 10 minutes from the railway station and adjacent to a shopping mall. This made travel and access to shopping and dining options fairly easy.
However, my biggest concern during the stay was the hotel's pricing strategy. When navigating to the hotel, I used a map which displayed the prices of this hotel. I was surprised that rates on the IHG platform were approximately 1.5 times higher than those offered on third-party booking sites. While minor price variations are understandable, such a significant discrepancy is hard to justify. I expected some price advantage, or at least parity, for booking directly through the IHG platform as a member, but instead found the opposite. The lack of pricing transparency and fairness could have been better and significantly detracted from my overall...
Read moreHotel location is very convenient: Well located in Baoshan area, a short walking distance away from Subway Line 3. Next to a shopping center with lots of restaurant/cafe options too. Room is clean and new. The bathroom is small but there's no issue for us, as long as you don't expect to use toilet and shower at the same time. Our room is located at Level 18 and it offers a great view, which is not common in Shanghai. Breakfast is included in the price with enough varieties including western style food. As we stayed there for a few nights, I noticed they did change the varieties. The gym is very basic though, only having a few (3 from memory) cardio machines. There's no weight training equipment at all. Hope this can improve. As we'll regularly visit Shanghai, we will use this hotel again for...
Read moreA staycation needed due to loud neighbors in my district! Simple, clean, mostly quiet, and the decent staff understood some English. The breakfast, which is normally large with many choices at this chain in China, had few options and was put away early if the both mornings of my stay. The location was good, with a mall and shops around, which I enjoyed. Close enough to sightseeing as well. Nice large shower and good toiletries. For the price, I may stay again if need be. A comfortable spot with no frills. As a former manager of IHG in the US, I was neither impressed nor underwhelmed. That said, this could be an exceptional, budget-friendly hotel with just a few minor changes. Either way, I would recommend to anyone one a business trip or that just needs a night or two away...
