This hotel is directly across from the Local Police Department , at least it was when I stayed there some 10 years ago. I had the experience of staying in a business A, and a 40 square meter Suite. Bother were nice for the money. Then it was only 230 rmb. My booking now ( 2017) is around 48-50 US dollars, if you book on Agoda or some other secondary site. You can also book with Jinjiang website if you can read Chinese or know someone who does, and use your Jinjiang card for a 10% discount on room rates . You can get a Jinjiang Senior card if your 55 years or older for free, otherwise you can buy one pretty cheap for discounts if you stay or plan to stay at Jinjiang Inns throughout China. Also you can use for 15% or so discount on their restaurant , each time. The suite was very nice with a separate bedroom, and living room. Very simple furniture, Laminate floors, and a good price for a very large room. I think they have several types of 40 sq meter suites. Some are all one room. However we had the two room suite which is preferable since the bedroom is separate with a door, and if you have visitors you can all socialize in the living room area separate from the bedroom Restaurant has good simple dishes for dinner if your not wanting to go outside. Breakfast is simple too but adequate with Oatmeals, Rice Porridge, hard boiled eggs, and cold cereals too, with some vegetables Chinese style , rice, etc. Some juice and milk with tea or coffee. Its simple and filling . If you get a room at the back of the Inn there is School's large field and tract you can see from your window and many student in high school during school time practicing their sports , running and jumps etc. Nice view in the back with newer more modern high rise apartments in the distance. The track is quite large and open space to see out into. The location is just a five minute walk through a community apartment walk to several major buss lines that go all over Shanghai, and the Subway is about a 10 minute walk which connect to other lines as well. I enjoyed my stay and booked another 40 sq meter room to compare the differences over 10 years. Its a good location if you like to mingle in a residential neighborhood, and blend in with the locals to feel what its like to live as a Chinese in a community and not a tourist area. There is no sites to see there locally for tourism but you can easily take the buss, subway and find so many things and places to go. There are many little local markets where you can buy fruit and other things as well as larger food stores for beverages and what-ever. There are many little small restaurants mingled in the streets and some larger more upscale ones. Plenty of massage, foot massage parlors where the Buss line Station is around the corner. Best place to find the best deal for a 40 sq meter, 2 room suite. Nice to take a stroll in the neighborhood and there are plenty of places to walk and just take in the feeling of being a local. We now have a relative who bought an apartment in the area so that really makes it convenient for us to visit them . There are many newly build apartments and older apartments in this neighborhood all mixed in together. Nice are overall. Very convenient buss station very close by. Its easy to take the local buss to Pudong LuJiaZhui, or Hui Hai Lu downtown area in Huangpu and many other location. We often take the buss in town to some of our favorite restaurants . One in Pudong on PuCheng Lu called Qian Xiang Ge a very good Guizhou style speciality food restaurant with all the old antique furniture to go with it. Its very reasonable and a must try. they have spicy foods with different levels of hot, but the hot is more spicy and a special secret recipe only they use and know. VERY GOOD!! Unique and a must try!! I go there many times when we visit Shanghai. I am looking forward to our stay again there, 10 years...
Read moreThe main reason why this hotel was chosen was for its location. It wasn't near major shopping areas or the main city center, but it was near Shanghai Oriental Sports Center where the world figure skating championship 2015 was held. The hotel is relatively near to Yangsi station, and the Shanghai Oriental Sports Center Station is a mere station away. Along the way you will come across convenience stores, and a bustling market with restaurants and selling stuff ranging from flowers to fresh fruits to daily household products. There is a convenience store just outside the hotel so that was really good. ||||The hotel itself is a rather simple building about 8 stories high and had a small check-in area. I found that the speed of check-ins and check-outs were too slow though. There are free newspaper and wifi in the lobby. One needs to pay 100 dollars as deposit that is refundable and would also need to pay an additional 20 (as deposit) should you want another electronic card key. We could borrow umbrellas from the counter FOC, and we could also leave our luggage there after we check out. The lift was really small and slow (yes there is only one lift) and you have to insert your card and the button to your floor would lit up. Sometimes i got tired of waiting and just took the stairs instead (and I personally felt that the extra security by the card has no use as strangers may enter the building and just take the stairs). ||||The room was of a pleasant size, and the beds were big and comfortable. The TV was old and mine didn't work. The air-con wasn't fantastic either. There was a electric kettle, and a few electric sockets. Paper cups were provided in the room and also the bathroom. What was lacking is a wardrobe. There was a place for hanging clothes but it only had 4 hangers so sometimes we had to drape our clothes over the chair. The bathroom had just a normal shower, with shampoo and soap provided. There was also a hair dryer. The room is cleaned daily but sometimes we return to find a small card on the table with scantily clad ladies depicted on it (ahem) which we would throw away. Sometimes the road outside could get noisy from public announcements or cars driving by and honking away. ||||I tried their buffet breakfast on the last day and it cost only 20 RMB. It was a good spread of chinese cuisine, porridge, bread etc. It tasted average. ||||In short the hotel is good if you are travelling outside most of the time and just want a place to sleep. My best memories of this hotel would be the friendly security guard who praised Singapore...
