I spent last week in the hotel, in mid-June 2014, and there were more positives than negatives. Price of 180 RMB was OK, internet access, some TV programs in English plus over 80 programs in Chinese with subtitles in Chinese can be a typical offer of a Chinese hotel, I guess.||Breakfast: I understand firstcomers to China that they may be surprised by the taste of real Chinese food, but the offer was fine. Do perhaps European hotels prepare Chinese breakfast to Chinese visitors? So my breakfast at 7:10 every day, I never tried coffee as this is not a coffee country, but soy milk was good! That brings me back to the point - everybody should have some basic knowledge of the Chinese characters as they often make the decision easier, soy milk is written differently from cow milk, indeed.||So the only negative point was the smell of cigarette smoke, which hovewer is strange only the first few hours in China, then you get accostumed to it probably.||A good point - plenty of restaurants nearby, reasonable proces, that is - if you ask the price of the beer beforehand so as to avoid surprises.||The staff is friendly and they try hard to help you in English. Again, how many of European hotel staff can even only count to...
Read moreThis was booked by my work as we needed to be close to the Expo centre. It's about 2km away and an easy taxi or bus journey. ||On first impressions I was a bit worried as it's not the most appealing hotel from the outside and the area it is in is away far away from the main touristy centre of Shanghai (therefore very local food options etc). It is very much a Chinese style hotel. Saying that the room was actually fine. It was relatively clean and not so noisy although my room was right at the end (number 39) so I would recommend this then you won't have people walking by. There was one English speaking TV channel (CCTV). I didn't have breakfast here so can't comment on this. There didn't seem to be in room dining. The staff didn't seem to speak a great deal of English. Personally I wouldn't stay here again, only because I like my comforts and ease when staying in China and prefer a Western style hotel. Saying that if you want clean and comfortable and are not fussy re it being Chinese style it's...
Read moreThe bed were ok. People are smoking everywhere, the hotel smells like a cold ashtray. ||I know Vienna Hotels from Shenzhen and until now I was satisfied because the price was around 200 RMB. But Vienna Shanghai was 400 RMB and the price was not worth the quality.||Breakfast was included but the breakfast was one of the most awful breakfast I never had in my whole life! ||||To get a american coffee for breakfast without sugar we had to start fighting to the staff and only got the coffee after awfull discussion with the staff. Makes no sense to write it all down. But it was awfull!!||||The staff conversation consist of the words "passwort", "creaditcard" "money". Thats all!! The hotel calls itself Vienna Hotel International. But for beeing international you should train your staff a bit english skills.||||We will surely never ever stay in the...
