This hotel has the trappings of a 5-star hotel, but it is maybe a 4-star, aging facility. I was travelling with over 30 people in an organized tour and half of the rooms did not have functioning air-conditioning. The temperature outside was in the 80s and 90s June 12 & 13 (2018). This issue was reported to staff, who indicated repairs complete, while we were out on tour excursions. However, the room, when set to 20 degrees Celsius, would still get up to 27 to 29 degrees Celsius even at 5 a.m., regardless which mode of operation selected. The floors in several the rooms had uneven floors with repaired carpeting causing trip hazards. The shower in at least two of the rooms I'm aware of had such a slow drain that it was easy to flood the bathroom. The room does have a mini fridge that is about 6-8 cubic feet, with separate refrigerator and freezer compartments. Great for chilling or freezing the two bottles of water housekeeping provides daily. The breakfast buffet was okay and had some variety, but it offers the same items found at any similar facilities in Chengdu, WuXi...
Read moreMy stay at Regal Plaza Hotel & Residence was a bit of a mixed bag. While it's conveniently located near the train station, it's quite far from the city or downtown, approximately 45-minute drive, making it a bit difficult to explore Shanghai. Upon arrival, I noticed there's not much around the hotel except for one convenience store. The hotel does offer an all you can eat dinner for around 120-130 yuan, including unlimited beer, but unfortunately, it wasn't worth it. The food lacked flavor, especially their attempts at Western style dishes, and the beer had a low alcohol content, affecting its taste. I'd recommend venturing outside the hotel for lunch and dinner. Additionally, the hotel follows eco-friendly practices, such as not changing towels daily and providing two pillows by default. However, they're accommodating if you request additional pillows. Overall, the hotel feels a bit dated, and while it serves its purpose, there's room for improvement in terms of amenities and...
