Its actual name is the JOYFUL Yard.
We stayed here while transiting through Pudong Airport having arrived on an early evening flight, and taking the next one the following morning.
We transited via the 24 hour Visa-free system at PVG (be aware this can take a long time for the paperwork at the airport, there can be long queues, and you have to have all the documents in the right order. The actual processing itself takes 10 - 15 minutes while they photograph your passport and do all the necessary checks).
Anyway, we thought the strangely-named hotel might be too cheap to be true (£38 for the night), despite the good reviews, but we went with it anyway and we were very impressed.
First off, we were worried if the advertised shuttle bus would just turn up at the stated location (Gate 6 outside Terminal 1 at 45 mins past the hour). After flying for 4 hours and being at the airport for a further hour, this was critical : we were tired and in a strange country!
But the shuttle bus certainly did turn up, and left precisely on time 45 mins past the hour. It also left on time the following morning en route back to the airport (we got the 7.05 departure which arrived at 7.35 after picking up at the Shanghai Deco, but be careful not to get the wrong bus at this time since the Disney bus also leaves for the Donald Duck car park - you will not end up at the airport if you take that one!).
The bus is a large one : good, since we (and everyone else) had a lot of luggage, and it's a slick operation serving the three hotels in this chain - the Joyful Yard, the Joyful Star and the Shanghai Deco.
The service at the front desk of the Joyful Yard was very good; they helped us with our bags, breakfast was quite comprehensive and most of all, the rooms were in very good condition and well spec'd. The hotel looks pretty new and there was nothing we could think negatively of it. The receptionist spoke English well enough for us to understand each other.
All in, highly recommended all round for an overnight layover.
Note the actual location of the hotel (screenshot when in it) not where Google Maps...

Read moreThe second part of our stay in Shanghai, we moved to this hotel as it was closer to Disneyland and Pudong Airport. Hotel provides free shuttle buses to both locations. ||Joyful Yard is a simple hotel but with excellent service. As soon as we entered the hotel, the staff were eager to help us with everything. We had booked a king bed and when the desk staff saw our daughter was with us they were discussing something. Initially I thought they were upset at us, but I was wrong. They were upgrading us to a family room. Language is a challenge but with translators, we managed.||The room came with complimentary breakfast. A mix of Chinese and Western dishes. They were perfectly fine and I enjoyed it all 3 days.||The free shuttle buses to airport and Disneyland makes it easy to get to those places. Please reserve a day in advance.||We asked for some extra water bottles and those were delivered to our room by a robot. As we had "do not disturb" sign on, the robot called our in room phone to alert us he/she was outside. It was a first for me.||Our room was face the road in front of the hotel and I saw earplugs were provided in the room. But there absolutely no need for any earplugs. It was very quiet and we all slept well.||We had a nice stay at you property.||Thank you and...
