The hotel is advertised as a ‘International Business Hotel’. There was not many international travelers staying when we were staying there for 7 nights. ||||On our arrival there was confusion about our booking. It took us 30 minutes to get booked in. Our first impressions were not very good, seeing the hotel had been booked through a travel agent, many months ago. The lobby was cold, and smoke filled, despite the hotel displaying ‘No smoking’ signs.||The hotel breakfast is purely catered to the local Chinese cuisine, which was mirrored in the evening meal. Western style food was not readily available.||||Our room was adequate, but we were moved on our third night at 9:00pm at extremely short notice without any explanation. We were upgraded to a better room, but despite our request for an explanation from the management, none was forth coming.||||I developed a severe bout of diarrhoea on our forth night, due to eating in the hotel restaurant the night before.||||There was a heavy military presence with numerous Chinese naval officers present, presumably attending various meetings within the hotel, but the hotel is also located next to a Red Army barracks, so if staying in Shanghai it is best to stay in the tourist areas.||||English is limited, the hotel could do with a refurbishment, the windows lobby cleaned, and the hotel reclassified downwards for...

The only reason to consider this might be if you had business in the Hongkou District, but even then it would be likely to disappoint.||||The lobby is promising enough and some effort has been made with the furnishings, though they will appeal more to Chinese tastes than Western- a lot of golden hues and Chinese calligraphy. But some of the facilities are substandard. The kettle in our room didn't work. The temperature on the AC was one of the trickiest I've ever encountered (you need to press the button six times first). Worst of all, the water is never hot. It gets lukewarm for an hour or two in the evenings and then it's back to cold again....
Read moreNot bad, was probably really nice when it was built. But now it is in need of a refresh. The rooms are adequately sized. The beds have not been padding at all. You can clearly feel the springs when you sit of lie down. Don't hit the corners too hard either, that hurts a bit! The bathroom was mouldy and water from the shower didn't contain in the shower recess well or drain from the floor well as the drain was a good distance from the shower. The cupboard under the mirror was also in pretty rough state. The air conditioner was also quite loud so we couldn't leave it...
