Nice clean room. However, terrible experience because of rude/unhelpful staff!
We arrived in Shanghai around 9pm, hot summer night in the 80s, with 2 giant luggages and a carry on because we were going to fly out the very next morning. Google map didn't work in China so we downloaded local Baidu map (widely used in China). However, when we entered "Eton Hotel" in the map and followed GPS out of the subway station, it led us to walk 20 minutes and we ended up right by a construction site. In confusion, I called the front desk of Eton Hotel, asking where they are located. Staff confirmed where we were and then told us we have to walk all the way back to the subway station and try to come out of a different exit. I told them that their hotel's address was wrong on the map and asked if they could send a vehicle to help pick us up because we had really heavy luggages. Staff said no.
We dragged everything the completely opposite way in sweat for another 30 minutes. When we finally got to the hotel to check in, I explained to the same staff (who answered my phone earlier) again that their hotel's address was wrong on the map. Staff said you should've typed in the Chinese name of the hotel since the map is a Chinese app. Speechless. What if the guest did not know how to speak or write/type in Chinese? No apologies, no intention to even take note of the feedback and find ways to improve it.
Lastly, when we were checking in, there was another couple next to us checking in at the same time. Their clerk asked whether they want a one-bed or two-bed room , so I asked our clerk if we could have a one-bed room. He said " no, it's all sold out for tonight" without checking the system, even though the clerk next to him just said that they do have one-bed rooms available.
Terrible experience with front desk staff, specifically one of them. Breakfast was good, location was convenient, but the overall experience was just...
Read moreI was in Shanghai on holiday for a couple of days and chose The Eton Hotel for my stay. |It was a very good choice, definitely not a disappointment. |It's fairly easy to get to hotel by metro from Shanghai Pudong Int Airport and the journey takes less than an hour (approx 45 minutes I would say). Only 1 interchange is required at Century Avenue station. While getting off at Pudong Avenue metro station take 7A exit and you'll literally arrive in front of the hotel entrance. |Hotel check-in time starts at 2 pm. I've arrived there at around 10 am and was kindly allowed to check-in early without any extra charges. Check-in process itself was pretty quick, the receptionist was very friendly. |I've booked a superior room. The room was very spacious overlooking Shanghai's skyline, which was particularly spectacular during the night. Bath was great as well - there was a glass divider between it and the room. Except for the main TV screen in the room, there was also a small TV monitor above the bath as well. There was a free bottled mineral water as well as the tea. |Double bed was comfortable. Sleeping quality was quite ok, too. There were some construction or road works during the first night, but they were not mega disturbing.|Breakfast was pretty generous, but it's better to start it earlier as it gets crowded pretty fast. Finding a free table was not a problem, though. |It is possible to walk to Shanghai Pearl Tower from the hotel, but metro in the city is very efficient and will take you to the tower a lot quicker, of course. |I can recommend The Eton Hotel to everyone and will stay there again should I travel to...
Read moreI am still staying in this hotel right now with my family 5 rooms for a total of 7 nights. The price and the location are ok, but the service and the room conditions are so bad. The airconditioner in our room was not working properly. They sent somebody from housekeeping to check, and she told us initially that that is really how it is and just open the window. We insisted they check and the technician determined that it wasnt blowing properly. They asked me to wait while they sorted it out. We were waiting until night time and they only told us we need to change rooms and sent the key when we asked again. They didn’t send anyone to help us with our luggage. And the housekeeping manager even had the audacity to ask us 5 minutes later why we were still in the room. I told her, i dont know, maybe because we have kids and staying for another 5 nights so we still have so many things we need to pack and move. She came back another 5 mins later to complain to hurry up because they still need to get the room ready for another guest. ???? So they were willing to give the room with a malfunctioning airconditioner to another guest. . Oh, The concierge at night is also an *. We arrived hungry and tired from a very long flight. My mother asked for recommendations on nearby eateries and he answered so rudely: “how am i supposed to know what you want to eat. Go find on the internet”. Why does this guy even have the job? Did anybody tell him what a concierge’s job is? The room facilities are very old. Carpets dusty and torn. Pillows flatI could have overlooked about the room condition if the service was friendly.
