We arrived at the hotel in the evening and left for the airport the next day (late afternoon) - so this review is just based on the very short time we stayed there and the interaction we had with the staff. Check-in and check-out was smooth and efficient (the staff spoke good English and accepted Mastercard/Visa credit cards). We had to cancel and reserve the Grand Lake View Studio instead of the cheaper Deluxe Lake View Room due to the hotel being fully booked (the rooms were booked on ctrip so it could be ctrip's policy) on the day we were in Shanghai. Apparently, there was an ongoing convention and all the Deluxe rooms were all wiped out by the delegates. The rooms was large (65 sq m) and had a nice view of the park next to the hotel - all the appliances worked (except for the massage chair which one had to use Alipay to purchase credit to use it). Complimentary toiletries are from L'Occitane while there was a Nespresso machine and teapot and cups were available for brewing tea. A separate walk-in wardrobe had a dressing table and big mirror. An interesting feature of the bath-tub in the bathroom was "Spa mode", which turned down the lights and played soft music when switched on. There was also a 19-inch TV in the bathroom. The rainforest shower was strong enough for me and temperature control is good. The bellboy was friendly and helpful - he explained why it was so difficult to get a cab on rainy days in Shanghai. Not helping the fact is the location of the hotel in a suburban district. It's also a 15-minutes walk to the nearest MRT station. The hotel does have a unique chapel hall for holding that dream wedding you always wanted. Lastly, the breakfast spread is average and also tasted average; coffee was bland and I would advise that you should drink the Nespresso in your...
Read moreWe stayed at the W.H Ming Hotel for a wedding during our recent trip to Shanghai. ||First impressions of the hotel are very grand, it is definitely an impressive building.||Our hotel rooms were large and very elegant. The bathroom was almost as big as my first apartment in Hoboken NJ. Our view of the lake outside was amazing. All the outlets were universal so we didn't have to worry about converters for our phones, which was nice. ||||However all this couldn't really be enjoyed because our room was an inferno every day we were there. In the hotel info book that comes in each room, it details that each room can be controlled with it's own thermostat, but I'm pretty sure that's an outright lie. We set our thermostat to 16 degree C when we first got in, and the room consistently remained at 24 deg C for our entire stay. I even called maintenance to make sure I wasn't doing something wrong. One of the other hotel guests who spoke Mandarin talked to some employees who said that really the hotel controls all the room temperatures. ||The room was so hot that I couldn't get a good sleep at night, and we didn't really want to spend any time there. As we were checking out my boyfriend said "Get me out of this hotel, I can't stand to be here another minute because it's so hot". ||Not exactly the experience you're looking for at $200/night. ||||Dining was ok, we only went to the AdD restaurant in the hotel so that was our only experience. Size of the buffet was very large, food was ok but nothing to write home about necessarily. ||||Hotel was very close to metro, but is situated outside the city center so it takes a while to get to the tourist areas.||||Overall a nice hotel, I don't think we would stay here again if we went back mainly for the value and issues we had with the...
Read more|Nicely appointed rooms. We stayed on the 18th floor with a nice view over the park. Breakfast buffet was of a good standard with a range of foods to cater for Chinese and Western tastes. Staff were friendly and helpful.||We were disappointed with the meal we had in the 5th floor Shanghai Min restaurant. The food was good but the service was appalling for the price. It was over staffed and the staff were clearly bored and disinterested accordingly. Busy massaging each other shoulders talking and joking with each other and standing around looking at their phones. Not interested in the three tables of guests. ||It wasn’t busy and there were more than six waiting staff in the dining room. I had to get up and pour tea four times for the people in our party as the staff were completely inattentive to the guests. When placing the tea pot on the table they pointed the spout at towards the guests rather than away (simple Chinese etiquette ignored). ||The dining room was in need of refreshing. The carpet was in very poor condition. Overall I would give this place a miss there are much better places to eat and...
