I stayed at Moxy Shenzhen (which is part of the Marriott chain) for one night in December 2022. Overall, it was a good, no-frills stay at a very affordable price. As is customary with my reviews, I provide a list of pros and cons below:||PROS:|1) Convenient location with lots of restaurants and major supermarket within walking distance — Moxy Shenzhen is located in an open-air shopping mega-complex called “6979” which has a lot of restaurants and a major international supermarket (Hema Supermarket) all within walking distance. Furthermore, the Hongshan Metro Station on the red line is about a 5-8 minute walk from Moxy Shenzhen, and Shenzhen North Rail Station is about a 5-10 minutes drive away.||2) Good value for money — we stayed in a standard twin room. The room rate at the time we stayed was 449 RMB (approximately 65 USD), which was a very good deal. Breakfast buffet for 2 was included as was 2 complimentary mocktails. ||3) Comprehensive bar — Moxy Shenzhen has one of most comprehensive bars in the area. Their bar is located in the lobby on the third floor. The drinks menu is comprehensive - again, one of the most comprehensive in the area - with lots of classic cocktails available. Their mocktails menu is also very good. ||4) Simple, but clean, and quiet room with window that can be cracked open — the standard twin room we stayed in was not large, but it had large windows (and the window could be cracked open for ventilation, which is very good especially during the pandemic). The room also had no carpet - it was hard wood floor - which I consider a plus (carpets in hotels can get very dirty as they are very hard to clean!). I also found the room to be generally quiet, but that being said, the hotel did not seem to be full when I stayed there. The room also had a small fridge that you could use for storing your own drinks (it did not seem that cold though, so I would not use it to store perishable things). Additionally, a water kettle (boiler) was provided, along with usual toiletries in the bathroom (liquid hand soap, body wash, shampoo, conditioner, toothbrush/toothpaste kids, comb, hair dryer etc). Two pairs of slippers were also provided. ||CONS:||1) No real table/desk or chair in rooms — as a space-saving measure in rooms, there is no real chair or work desk (at least in the standard rooms - not sure about their most expensive room, which is a suite). Rooms have a unique foldable, circular table and a foldable camping-style felt padded chair that are on hooks in the room, which you can take down yourself and open up. For me, the novelty of these foldable items wore off after 10 minutes, upon which I really started missing having a real chair and real table in the room. The circular table was wobbly and small (could basically only fit a backpack) and the foldable chair had weird stains in the padding fabric, so I just sat on the bed when I wanted to get work done or sit down in the room. That was not very convenient. So, the only place you could sit down was either on the bed or on the dirty foldable chair (which I did not sit on due to the aforementioned weird stains on it).||2) Limited amenities — certain amenities that are pretty standard in hotels are not provided in the room - for example, no complimentary coffee is provided in the room (only two tea bags) and no lotion is provided. Then again, for the very affordable and competitive room price (see above), I did not complain. You could buy lotion and instant coffee in the nearby Hema supermarket. ||3) Can hear doors slamming from the hallway — the doors to rooms are heavy (which is good for keeping out sound pollution) but this also meant you could hear doors slamming from the hallway whenever another guest closed his/her door. ||4) Breakfast buffet food generally all lukewarm — breakfast buffet came with our room rate. There were adequate Chinese and Western options (Western options included fried eggs, cereals, bacon, sausage, yogurt, toast with jam) and even a “live cooking station” where you could order Chinese noodle soups and wontons from the chef who would make these to order. The problem with all of the hot food items - including the “live cooking station” - was nothing was really hot. Everything was just lukewarm. It’s hard to complain since breakfast was included in our room rate, but it would have been nice if items were held at a proper hot temperature on the buffet.||5) Some unhygienic behaviors at the buffet by other guests — I know it’s hard for any hotel to control this, but there were some unhygienic behaviors at the buffet by other guests, including guests who were coughing and/or sneezing (without mask) over food items on the buffet. Maybe the hotel could consider installing sneeze guards at the buffet. Also, our table at breakfast was sticky and had food stains left over from the previous diners. I had to use my own hand sanitizer and a napkin to wipe down our table. ||CONCLUSIOn: |Overall, Moxy Shenzhen offers a simple, no-frills,...
Read moreBeing my 3rd stay in Moxy globally, I know what Moxy can offer and was indeed looking forward to it. For this Moxy, all turned up well for the hardware as I was given a suite room even though it is just an overnight stay. Amenities wise is also good including the unexpectedly good breakfast choices. What attracted me at first for this hotel was their self service laundry and rarely you can see that it comes with 4 washing machine cum dryer and 2 standalone dryer, indeed it was fully used at night.||Talking about laundry , this is where i have rated this hotel a 2 stars just because of one of the worst service staff I came across. To me a hotel can be splendid and all it take is the service attitude of their associates to ruin it and by this I am just referring to one guy supposedly the manager or at least the night time supervisor. As I was using the laundry machine with dryer function , I decided to cut short the drying process as it was getting late and decided to end it. As in all washing process due to the heat built up during drying I waited for a while for it to unlock but it took a while without any success.||I decided to go to the reception and approached the staff on the night of 7 July and shared my issues with him , throughout the process of talking for 3 mins, he did not seem bother about my issues and what was worst that for the whole duration , he was not even looking at me but looking downwards, such unacceptable service attitude is not desirable at all and to me he has been one of the worst service staff I came across in any industry.||Moxy can be all good and all it take is one guy to ruin the...
Read moreThe Moxy Shenzhen North delivers a fantastic, modern experience with a distinct cyberpunk edge. The atmosphere is electric and stylish, perfectly blending industrial design with neon-lit, futuristic vibes. This theme extends from the social lobby right into the compact, tech-savvy rooms. The check-in process is notably smooth, and a major perk is their very cool standard policy of an afternoon checkout, which adds tremendous value and convenience. Its greatest strength is the unbeatable location, directly integrated with the Shenzhen North Railway Station, making travel effortless. The surrounding area is lively and vibrant. However, while the bar is a great social hub, the food and drink offerings are just so-so. Ultimately, it's the perfect crash pad for stylish travelers who prioritize design, location, and a seamless stay over extensive culinary...
