Renaissance Tianjin Downtown Hotel — Hotel in Tianjin

Staff is friendly but their english is not as proficient as in other foreign hotels I've been to. I've traveled extensively for many years to over 30 countries. The hotel is 'dated'. This was noted in many other reviews. The gym is quite dated, the equipment is appears to be very old and the carpet is in very poor condition. Honestly, it was downright dirty. But they had everything I needed to get a good workout. Again, the staff in the gym, the business office, the lounge, etc were all great and pleasant. The paint in the rooms needs updating. I was in my bathroom and the phone rang. I answered the phone and the whole thing came off the wall because they had it secured to the wall with duct tape. Wow. I had to kind of push it all back in. The food is not too bad although when I went to breakfast they always had a sign out for pancakes. I would go up to the kitchen/cooking area and wait and then after a while I would ask if there were any. The chef would say, 'no' and I would show her the sign and she would shake her finger at me and say, 'no'. So why put the sign out? Breakfast overall wasn't bad. Some western stuff and some Asian fare. I am a Marriott gold member. I've had better, I've had worse. The room service menu does leave a lot to be desired. The exec lounge isn't bad, but it is small. But we were there every night to relax somewhere outside our room. They have liquor available if that's your thing. The staff in the lounge is really great. They get to know the customer and I had no problem tipping, something I see very few people do, very few, especially the non-U.S customers. The exec staff employees work their butts off and no one ever tips them. There are 'smells' in the room that aren't really describable. The walls need paining. I was surprised to see that the walls in the second floor dining area were really in poor shape. On my last day I asked for a taxi to be available for us in 20 minutes after we checked out. We go out and wait. The doorman eventually tells us to go out in the street with him to hail down a taxi. Oh well, this is China, it aint New York. The hotel is in a good area. There are some restaurants and many malls around the property. There is a 7-11 around the corner for some simple things like bottled water/soda and some western fast food joints. All in all, if I had to come back to Tianjin, I would stay here again, but mostly because I am a Marriott fan. Also, the hotel is about 15-20 minutes away from the train station by taxi. There is a subway across the street from the hotel but I wouldn't take the subway because it is hard to figure out. Be careful crossing any street because drivers in China are known to drive the wrong way, and I've seen this many times myself. And they will drive towards you as I saw, and they won't respect the crosswalk painted on the road. I don't write reviews just to vent or complain. I've written many wholly positive reviews about other Marriott properties, taken surveys and wrote emails to Marriott about great properties and service in the past. But the one thing I did have a problem with at this hotel is their internet. It is awful. It was almost impossible to connect or stay connected, or use any of my apps or even send a simple - all text email. Trying to chat with my wife and kids or working from my laptop were almost impossible. It took over 15 minutes to get my laptop connected and begin working every time and once it was connected it would log off after a few minutes. Others in my party experienced...

I stayed for more than 1 month. My room was almost perfect. This hotel is one of the famous global hetel frenchise. Swimming pool snf gim and spa was at 6 floor. Breakfast was 2nd floor. Food was Good. I usally enjoyed swiss cheese and french bread. Most of the staff were very kind as well. Nastalsia and Intership students was perfect in terms of attitude and kindness.
