We chose the Marriot Courtyard for 3 main reasons this Summer holiday. Location, Pool and gym. Let's explore the area and hotel first. This hotel is located on the mainland so be aware of travel times and distances to the island. If you want to be in the thick of things this is not the right location. It's on the quieter side with a great A Luohai Plaza complex next to the lake that offers things to see and places to eat with some western options thrown in for good measure like KFC and Pizza hut. About a 2 - 3km walk from the hotel. Thehotel has a great view of the bay area and small islands but doesn't offer a beach as such. As you enter the hotel foyer you're actually entering the Marriot Bonvoy not Courtyard. For the Courtyard you get ushered around the back to a modest, unassuming but still pleasantly appealing reception area. The staff are accommodating and friendly and assisted whenever we needed help. The lifts are card-secured and prevents unauthorised access. The cleaning staff were great and they serviced the rooms well. The rooms are well stocked and you're not wanting for anything. The gym. The gym was probably the best of the 3 hotels we stayed at. We actually frequented it daily and was impressed by the quality of gym equipment and the variety available. The pool area. This was our biggest dissappointment. A beautiful pool area with a well sized pool limited from 2:30 pm. We booked the hotel to spend our first few days lazing next to the pool and relaxing before moving into busier areas. To our dismay the pool was closed during the mornings when we would usually spend next to the pool. This was frustrating as the Marriot is an international hotel and many foreigners would want to spend the morning in the sun. This was also for no reason. Just taped off. So of course when 2:30 came everybody was forced to access the pool at the same time making it uncomfortable with no seating or space to enjoy. The breakfast/dinner buffet area was well stocked with a good selection of breakfast items for both Asian and Western tatests although still mostly Asian. The Chefs had no problem grilling our meat to our request and the quality was commendable. I would recommend the Courtyard to travelers that want to explore Xiamen from all...

Read moreOkay, but much better options exist if you have the money and book in advance.First of all, its a separate class of hotel situated within the very same Marriot (which is higher end), so consider this a class below the actual Marriot. The exit is separate, and leads mostly to nowhere, and you will most likely enter the real Marriot part of the building at first, but thankfully staff knows this is a common mistake and leads you through a small hallway of about 200m to the other reception where you will be greeted by just as professional staff. They don't include any toiletries but will deliver them swiftly to the room door if you need any, I guess its ecological, in their mind, but practically..ultimately pointless and saves no one's time and energy. The room itself is a bit of a step down from regular 4* chain hotels - the size, the leather on the furniture is torn and worn a bit, and it shows its age and class. There are similarly priced competitors within the same 1-2km range, who do a much better job, plus better view, for a few bucks more. It should be priced a bit lower in order to be a good deal and vibe for the money. Ultimately an okay hotel, no one will be disappointed, but the value to me just isn't there, and the real Marriot is in the same building, but you are getting the cheaper version of it,...
