Xiamen Huaqiao Hotel — Hotel in Xiamen

Hotel is located close to Zhongshan Road, a pedestrian only shopping street in Xiamen. Many small food shops and stores selling daily necessities around the hotel. There's also a money exchange in the hotel. They also sold coats and jackets on the second floor during my visit.||Stayed in a triple room; the room was large but the mattress of the extra bed was too thin so that you can feel the frame of the bed when lying down on it. English TV selection is limited but it does have BBC.||The water coming from the shower is warm/hot and strong, which is good. But the shower/bath faucet is quite noisy - I took a bath one night then received a knock from the hotel staff saying that there was a complaint from one of the other guests that the shower from one of the rooms (which case was my room) was too loud.||Breakfast is so-so. There might be bacon, ham or sausage, but there is an abundance of Chinese vegetable dishes, mushrooms, beans, and porridge, most of which aren't to my liking. Bread and pastries are so-so but their small cubical cakes are above average. There's a noodle station where you pile the toppings you want on a plate before presenting it to the chef who'll prepare the noodle soup for you. Personally would recommend the Xiamen style laksa look-alike. In short, the breakfast is just there to fill you up.||Overall, despite the flaws, they are easily eschewed in favor of the excellent location as well as the room itself, which was spacious. There're quite a lot of options if you're staying on the main island instead of Gulangyu Island, but this is one of the cheapest hotels I could find in the city and its the location is pretty good. A three-bed room cost us only 500rmb per night and it came with two bathrooms too, the room was unexpectedly clean and new, they even provide a desktop computer with LAN wire inside your room.||||The hotel is lying at the end of the walking street, it's also somewhere that you must visit in Xiamen, food and necessities are readily available due to its excellent location. The only thing going for this hotel is its location. Centrally located near shopping district. The hotel itself is old and room temperature too warm for comfort. The hotel staff said it is centralized and they advised to just open the windows! They also provided an electric fan. I expected more from a 4-star hotel. The carpets are dirty. The breakfast is mediocre. The room safe doesn't work. I have to call maintenance to fix the faucet plug. The staff are helpful though and from what I can see are trying their best. I don't think I will stay in this...
