The worst hotel of our travels (and we stayed in some dives)||We really had high hopes for this hotel, we had messaged prior to arrival confirming that we would be able to have a pool, a laundry service and aircon. ||On arrival we spoke to the receptionist who was quite clearly having some banter about us to the handy man as our Spanish was not the best - her English however was poor. Great start. We then had to cough up $200,000, we now see why we had to pay upfront as we wouldn’t have if we saw the room first. I asked about a laundry service and again she laughed in our faces saying the person wasn’t telling the truth and said the laundry is only for the bed linen. ||On arrival to the room the shower barely worked and the beds were rock hard. ||To make it better we thought we would go in the pool. The pool water level was about 1 metre from the top and you have to jump to get in. It clearly hasn’t been cleaned for a good few weeks and we very quickly hopped out as there were bugs in the bottom and skin particles floating on the top, a lot of them! ||As we got back to the hotel after a night out I asked for a bottle of water again a great reception of ‘we have no water’. So I waked back into town to get some. What hotel does not supply drinking water?!||And finally the air con. It worked which was actually surprising however did cut out for 2 hours during the night. We were not given any controls, it was controlled by reception which thankfully was okay but a sign of how tight this hotel is!||All in all unfortunately one of the worst sleeps we had in Colombia - I don’t normally leave reviews however felt inclined to do so as it was so crap.||The breakfast was also unfortunately in line with the rest of our experience here. We couldn’t wait to get out! ||The juice upon arrival was about the only good thing we have to say for this place....
Read moreThe Mares Lodge is five minute walk to the seafront. We had a large room that sleeps five and it was clean. The power was inconsistent whilst we were there and we had to ask to have the airconditioning turned on a few times as using the remote did not work. The WIFI was also unavailable during our stay (we were told the whole town had no access). The included breakfast was sufficient and served with a smile. The manager was very helpful and friendly. The pool was lovely. We used Dive Capurgana and enjoyed...
