Hosteria de la Plaza Menor is situated in a corner of quaint, colonial Santa Fe Antioquia about 3 blocks from the center of the pueblo (Plaza Mayor). Hotel guests are treated to a panoramic view of the valley and surrounding mountains. ||||The hotel is a converted villa that has been in the same family for several generations. It is owned and operated by three sisters who remain "hands-on" with every aspect of the hotel. Plaza Menor reminds me of an old Spanish castle... a trip back to the years of yore. The hosteria is favorite romantic getaway for couple of all ages and from all over Colombia. Travel to Santa Fe is an easy 1 hour 10 minute ride from Medellin, and has been a favorite escape for my wife and I who live in greater Medellin. ||||This boutique hotel has 24 units. Approximately half are standard rooms in the main building while the remaining are deluxe suites in the towers situated on the edge of the property overlooking the valley. The standard rooms are simple, clean and functional while the deluxe suites are simply "WOW." ||||My wife and I stayed in a standard room on the second floor of the main building, The room was spacious, and included an antique chest/dresser, several small tables, a refrigerator, small color TV and a couple of traditional upholstered chairs. There are mini-bar items in the refrigerator. The bathroom was small, but not cramped. The cleanliness of the room was immaculate. The queen-sized bed was hard, but not too uncomfortable for a weekend stay. We paid COP$ 192,000 ($106 US) for a weekend couple special rate. The rate includes 3 meals. Our friends stayed in a standard room on the first floor which was a smaller unit than ours, and did not have a refrigerator.||||I did have the opportunity to check out the deluxe suites. The suites are beautiful, elegantly appointed with traditional, hand-made furniture, stained glass windows and ornate woodwork throughout, and balconies overlooking the mountains. Each suite is comprised of two or three separate rooms and bath. The cost for a suite is COP$ 320,000 ($177 US) per night. My wife and I are frugal travelers, but in this case, we would have gladly sprung for the additional $70 had a suite been available on this particular weekend. ||||All units at the hosteria are air-condtioned... which is a must when staying in Santa Fe. ||||The hotel has a host of amenities including and outdoor bar/restaurant, guest parlor and game room, a large swimming pool (and kiddie pool), steam room, jacuzzi (additional cost) and romantic outdoor balconies (furnished with sofas and hammocks). There is also a spa that offers massages, hydration and other services for guests (at an additional cost). My wife and I enjoyed an hour and a half massage that started out with a "rice and cream" exfoliation and turkish bath. We received our massage in an open loft at the top of one of the hours at dusk, and enjoyed the cool breeze from the mountain tops after a hot day in the pueblo. When our massage was complete, we returned to the turkish bath for a shower and were then provided with a refreshing red tea. The cost is COP$ 70,000 ($39 US) per person.||||My wife and I enjoyed the meals at Hosteria de la Plaza Menor very much. The meals are served buffet-style and accompanied by juice, coffee and dessert. Two entrees are served with fresh vegetables and salads. The quality of the food makes it obvious that every meal is prepared with TLC. Guests dine in one of two medieval Spanish-style dining halls or on the poolside patio. ||||The staff at Hosteria de la Plaza Menor is friendly and helpful. There is plenty of staff onboard to ensure the comfort and to attend to the needs of each individual guest. ||||Since Hosteria de la Plaza Menor is a place for romance and relaxation, there is no "business center" or WIFI. So, it is best that you leave your work and laptop at home. :)||||Based upon our recent experience, my wife and I highly recommend Hosteria de la Plaza Menor, and are planning a return trip within the next...
Read moreWe couldn’t wait to leave this hotel, it was so poor. On the positive side we appreciated the use of the pool, and were relieved that the room had aircon. The breakfast was OK. The waiter/barman was polite and helpful.||The negatives started at check-in with a surly receptionist who seemed to regard us as imposing on her valuable time. No smile, no welcome, no information given. The room (number 13!) was awful - the double bed (with a very hard mattress) was pushed into the corner, there were no bedside shelves or cabinets, the only lighting was from one naked bulb, and there were no curtains or blinds on the windows. The bathroom was horrible, with a cracked and dirty floor, those little stick-on plastic hooks (mostly broken), loads of holes in the wall tiles from cack-handed efforts to fit a loo roll holder, a filthy bin, and only cold water available in the shower. |The WiFi didn’t work in the room.|The public areas were filled to the brim with oversized faux antique furniture, and the courtyard was covered in broken concrete. |We booked through Booking.con and felt that the photos on that website were...
Read morethis quaint hotel is really lovely. The staff is extremely helpful and I hope you all tip them as they work so hard and very long hours. I saw the staff when I woke up early in the morning and the same workers were there when I was getting ready to go in for the night. Extremely hard working.. The hotel is really beautiful and the owners are very nice. This is like a gem tucked away in the valley, they have a perfect location to see the mountains or just stare up at the stars and take in the fresh air. The pool to the right I preferred it was not as crowded as the pool that overlooks the valley. The grounds are well kept. I came from NY and just felt as though I was in paradise. The only thing I would say is although this is an all inclusive they should have more food selections and give out more food. I was still hungry after dinner and I am a vegetarian, there were not a lot of food options for me. Other than that this is a perfect place to stay and I highly recommend it....
