A Terrible Experience at Hotel Santiago de Armas (October 16 and 17, 2025) I can say with absolute certainty that we were victims of theft at this hotel: my Apple Watch charger disappeared. The most outrageous part wasn’t just the theft itself, but the way the staff tried to cover it up. The morning started like any other. Upon waking, I took my watch off the charger base, leaving the cable plugged into the outlet, as I do every day. My husband and I went out for breakfast and a walk, leaving the room unattended for about an hour. Before heading out, I asked a housekeeper not to clean the room, just to leave a fresh set of towels. When we returned, I immediately noticed that the phone charger was still plugged in, but the Apple Watch charger was gone. We are absolutely sure we didn’t unplug it. We searched the room thoroughly: emptied our suitcases, lifted blankets, sheets, and mattresses, looked under the beds and inside pillowcases. Nothing. The charger was nowhere to be found. We confirmed that the clean towels had been delivered, which meant someone had entered the room. At that point, there was no doubt: the charger had been stolen. I asked to speak with the hotel manager, who received my complaint. Hours later, I found out she wasn’t the manager but the Head of Marketing, Mrs. Luz Marina. We went up to the room together and confirmed the charger was still missing. She said she believed me, as the situation was evident. An hour and a half later, the housekeeper, Mrs. Irma Gaviria, appeared accompanied by her supervisor, Mrs. Gabriela Rendón. They informed me they wanted to inspect the room with me. To my surprise, the supervisor walked straight in, bent down, and without looking anywhere else, “found” the charger under the bed in a matter of seconds. An item my husband and I had searched for over 30 minutes with extreme care. The scene was so absurd it felt like a performance: the charger “appeared” as if by magic. This way, the hotel avoids acknowledging the theft, no one is held responsible, and the Head of Marketing washes her hands of the issue. My recommendation is clear: DO NOT stay at this hotel. The lack of ethics and professionalism is unacceptable.

Read moreI had an early flight and wated to be near the airport. They have 24-hour shuttle service. Everybody was nice – front desk, shuttle driver, restaurant. Good sized room with place to hook up my laptop. The room had air-conditioning, but also windows that would open. Room faced to rear which provided bucolic scene with mountains in background. Big bathroom with large, walk-in shower and pleanty of counter space to put my things such as toothbrush, razor, etc. Off to the side of the lobby was a big sitting area if you wanted to hang out. No problem with check-in at 10:00 a.m. No soda machines, but was able to get soda in restaurant at 10:00 p.m. When I checked in, I could smell beef being cooked at the restaurant acorss the street (the one with the thatch roof). I knew I had to eat there. Did not have my glasses to read the menue so I told the waiter I wanted carne asada. He recommended something and I said yes. It looked and like beef tenderloin, but I never have seen a beef tenderlioin that big. I'm glad I ate there. In spite of the huge lunch, I ate in the hotel restaurant that night. That too was a good meal. Left for the airport at 5:00 a.m. so did not get to try the breakfast. I am returning to Medellin in 7 months. There are many airport hotels from which to choose (search Rionegro, Colombia), but I will...
