I hate to give a mediocre rating, but there were truly things that should not happen in a hotel. At first I have to say, everyone was very lovely and polite, especially Señora Gladys. We were asked everyday what we would like to have for breakfast. We got coffee, eggs with tomate and onions, and a fruit salad. This was very nice. Also I was happy the wifi worked well. The room was cleaned everyday meticulously as I had to search for my stuff everyday because I have the bad habit to leave everything scattered around the room - and then I had to find everything sorted and ordered in another place and order. ||||The room itself was fine. The decoration and interior of the hotel and the common rooms reminded me strongly of my grandmothers house in the countryside back home in Europe. How you like it is a matter of taste.||||Now the things that were difficult: The shower was hot, but always too hot. No way to regulate the temperature. Either freezing using tap water in the sink or burning myself under the shower. And what was bigger problem: On weekends everything is fine but as soon as the week started we were the only guests and often found no one from the staff. And worse it happened several times we went out and wanted to come back and no one was there to open the front door (even though we were asked when we returned and returned exactly at those times). This is particularly annoying when you're standing outside in the cold, it's raining and you have left your phone inside. What is the problem in giving your paying guests a key for the front door?! I really don't like to be restricted...
Read moreThe hotel is situated at the top of a flight of steps from the village.||Although we have little Spanish and the owner little English we got on great. There appeared to be delight when using Google translate.||The hotel only serves food at breakfast, but will make you a packed lunch for your trek.||We were in room 2 and the shower was only luke warm, the water is heated in the shower head so the temperature is related to the speed of the flow. ||The building is old but is well looked after. Only the main room is heated (by a log fire) so jumpers are needed. Have discovered that nowhere in Colombia has heating!||Enjoyed our stay, although if I wax staying longer I would have wanted a different shower.||As mentioned by other reviewers you don't get given a key to the hotel so need to buzz each time you want to enter, she will then quite often throw the key down, we didn't have any problem getting in, but it is a...
Read moreWarm and looked after... Gladys and her family made me feel at home. Fantastic breakfasts (you've got to have Gladys' eggs with tomato and onion) and they also helped me dry my things in front of the fire in the common area after a wet hike in the Paremo (for this I recommend Mongui Travels - Local guides who speak English).||Basic rooms, but clean, warm and comfortable with warm showers. ||My visit to Mongui was mid-week and a lot of restaurants and cafes are closed including the beautiful Iglesia. I took a peak in during an...
