Physically the hotel and the rooms are attractive. Be aware that the beds are hard; they have a foundation (box spring), covered with a futon, covered with sheets. The bed would have been much more comfortable if they had used a mattress instead of this futon setup. If you are not used to sleeping on a firm or hard mattress, you may find it difficult to sleep here. The bathroom is nicely tiled and very attractive.||||The sheets and pillowcases seem to be a cheap polyester or poly-blend material, instead of cotton (which would be more befitting of a hotel which has the word Boutique in its name). There's a worn armchair in my room. The room is lit by a fluorescent bulb with poor color quality and has low light output. There is a small security safe in the closet, but it's not attached to anything... it's small enough (10" x 7") that someone could just take the safe with them and have it opened by a locksmith somewhere else. The room also has a split air conditioner with remote control; this unit worked well and was very quiet. ||||The room comes with a small refrigerator stocked with some drinks. Breakfast is served from 700am to 1000am and it was quite good. I went downstairs at 900am and I was the only guest there. They gave me scrambled eggs with onions and tomatoes, toast, freshly squeezed orange juice, and coffee.||||The big flaw with this hotel is the noise. There's no way to escape it. The hotel is right next to some night clubs (they are right across the street, and across a parking lot). Then there's the huge parking lot itself, with car alarms, horns, people laughing and talking loudly. The music from the clubs seems to stop around midnight from Sunday through Thursday, but on Friday and Saturday night, it will go on until 200am. It's difficult to fall asleep on Friday and Saturday nights before then, so you may as well stay out and party. ||||My room this time was number 302 and it has two windows... one is to an internal hallway and the other window is in the bathroom. The bathroom window has louvers that are in a fixed position and cannot be closed. Even with the bathroom door closed, noise from the street still penetrates the bathroom door. There's a long hallway that runs the length of the hotel. Probably every room on the same side of the hallway (the east side) will suffer from this noise. ||||On the opposite side of the hallway (the west side of the building) are the rooms that face the street. There's a lot of traffic that goes by on this street, starting at about 700am. Fortunately, there's not a lot of horn honking, but every time a heavy vehicle goes by, the entire building vibrates. This vibration actually woke me up both mornings. ||||Since the hallways are covered with tile, you can clearly hear what's going on in the hallway while you're in your room. Although this time there was hardly anyone else staying there so it wasn't much of a problem.||||By the way, this was my second time staying at this hotel. The first time was a couple of years ago when it was called Betel House. Employees at the hotel told me that some Spaniards bought it in about June 2011 and changed the name (the prices are higher now too). Almost immediately afterward, it got listed on Trip Advisor and started receiving reviews. It's interesting that it has more reviews than other hotels that have been in this neighborhood for nearly a decade. In my opinion, some of the reviews sound like they were written by a publicist, rather than by guests who actually stayed at the hotel. I think my review is fair and balanced, and will give you an idea of what to expect if you stay here. If anyone doubts that I stayed at this hotel, send me a private message and I will e-mail you a copy of my receipt.||||I was reluctant to stay here a second time, but I arrived in Cali without a reservation in another hotel & didn't have time to research other possibilities.||I would not stay here again, considering the higher price + the problems with...
Read moreThe staff was very helpful and very friendly. It is best if you speak Spanish, as did my travel companions; however, I was able to speak English with the third shift personnel. The bathrooms have been remodeled recently and were in excellent shape. The rooms were clean and all our towels were new. The basics were in excellent shape. ||As others have mentioned in their reviews, there was construction being done throughout the neighborhood but this was not a problem for us. There is a club across the street (Bliss Lounge)which can be open until late at night but if you are in this neighborhood then you are probably there to visit the clubs and discotechs. We usually returned from our night of fun around 2 or 3am and never had a problem falling asleep. We were under the impression that breakfast would be served until 11am; this was not the case. Breakfast was very good; eggs, toast w/jam, Colombian coffee and juice was a great start to the day; however, it was served only until 10am.||We love the location and had a pleasant stay at a fair price; we would...
Read moreWe found this hotel perfectly adequate for the price we paid, It's in the hip part of Northern Cali. Nearby Avenida 9 with all it's bars and not far from a good Juan Velasquez café with a good terrace. All in an upcoming neighbourhood. The rooms are spacious and spotlessly clean. There are funky paintings all over the hotel. Ask for a room in the back. In the weekend there is noise from the bar across the street (techno in stead of salsa) and from the parking lot in the back. But then who is looking for a quiet place when staying at the Zona Rosa. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The Dutch guy spoke...
