I visited Posada del Zaguán with my family for a very special ocassion: the 90th birthday of my grandmother. We reserved the whole place for the 19 of us. ||The hotel is a beautiful traditional house, very well kept and clean. The central patio with the fountain is the representation of the Republican architecture of the coffee region of Colombia. The beds are sublime, top class. There's good WiFi. The hotel is a couple of blocks away from the main square, where all of El Retiro's great restaurants are.||If you are looking for a great place in Antioquia search no more: Posada del Zaguán in Retiro is a MUST.||María Lis, the wonderful manager, not only made us feel at home, but helped in the celebration: we had a Catholic mass with a great priest at the hotel and later a serenade of two talented mucisians. María Lis did the arrangements for both events. It was a splendid time, filled with spiritual moments. It was a trip we will cherish forever. María Lis also guided us through town and took us to Café Retiro --the best coffee shop in town, which is also kind of a museum, an experience of the coffee culture in the hills of Colombia-- and showed us different houses of El Retiro.||Overall, it was a magnificent weekend. La Posada del Zaguán is highly...
Read moreI recently stayed at this hotel located just two blocks from El Retiro Park in Medellín. This old colonial house features traditional decor and offers clean rooms, with friendly staff, particularly during breakfast service. However, I would only recommend this hotel for a (1) one-night stay if you don't expect to get any sleep.
The hotel lacks a safety deposit box, and the doors do not feel secure, contributing to an uneasy atmosphere. The noise levels were significant; I could hear the staff in the mornings and loud music throughout the day. The wood floors in the bedroom are very noisy, adding to the overall disturbance. Additionally, construction nearby began at 6 AM, making it impossible to rest.
To add to the inconvenience, there was no hot water in the shower, which was surprising for such a cold city, especially at night. The Internet was also inconsistent, going on and off frequently, which was frustrating.
Lastly, I was charged for an old hard hand towel that got dirty due to something spilling inside my luggage, which I found unreasonable, it's a first for me during my travels.
This is a one (1) to two (2)-star hotel at most, so don’t expect too much out of it. Overall, only stay for 1 night at most if you are coming to this...
Read moreJust a fabulous experience overall. The staff (Mary, Estela, others) was past amazing, The "hotel" is like a warm, inviting house that a nice family is allowing you to experience, with a fabulous indoor patio with sitting area and fountain that automatically calms your spirit and makes you feel welcome. Rooms are very clean and comfortable, obvious the owners thought of guests when equipping the rooms. Shower nice, with plenty of hot water, able to keep the window open to let in the wonderful cool air, several outlets around the room, no coffee pot in the room, but fresh coffee available at all hours in the sitting area, much more sanitary I think. Breakfast is included at a restaurant across the street/parking lot, very good options and staff accommodating as well, much better than the "continental" plastic wrapped free breakfasts we are accustom to in many places. Be sure to bring a sweater, scarf or jacket for mornings and evenings for walks - it is chilly but feels wonderful if you're from a hot climate like the...
