Wonderful Stay at Fragata!
I am so happy we chose to stay at Hotel Fragata, and I cannot praise everyone enough for their warm hospitality and attention to detail. From the moment my family and I arrived until our departure, every aspect of the stay was marked with thoughtful details and consideration for us as guests. Would love to come back someday!!
Hotel: Relaxing, private, island location— who could want more. We were very happy to avoid the crowds at Isla Grande. Fragata is smaller and able to provide a more intimate and relaxing experience. There’s a cute dog named Coco who roams the grounds. Having a dog around is definitely a plus for us and we enjoyed his company, as we miss having a dog of our own. (If you are wary of dogs, note that the islands have many friendly strays that roam around in general, so be prepared for this.) My room was facing East, enjoyed watching the sun rise near the water in the mornings. The room's design/decor was warm and inviting, and cleanliness and comfort were truly exceptional. The grounds were clean and beautiful, cannot say enough positive things about the place!
Amazing food: The hotel's restaurant/chefs deserve a special mention! Every item on the menu was truly a culinary experience. We did not expect to find such a diverse menu that catered to various tastes (even if you’re not a fan of the local seafood!). The flavors were nothing short of sensational—clearly fresh and carefully prepared. Staff asks what you’d like for lunch/dinner ahead of time and then has it ready by the time you asked for the meal. Was fun ordering lunch from the ocean while snorkeling, sorta felt like a kid again. The staff also helped us bring a cake from Cartagena for a birthday in our group. We were really impressed and appreciate all of the effort that Fragata has put forth to provide exceptional food in such a remote location! Not easily done! Congrats Fragata!!
Attentive Staff: The staff went above and beyond to ensure we felt at home. They were not only attentive but genuinely friendly and eager to assist. Carlos was especially wonderful, he even showed us how the hotel’s energy system works when my dad asked. They were also proactive in finding ways to ensure we were comfortable throughout our stay. Their dedication to guests was extra special; you don’t often get this from hotels in Colombia, so definitely worth a mention.
Overall, our stay at Fragata was an unforgettable experience that exceeded all expectations. So happy to know a place like this exists. Thank you so much for...
Read moreI always feel a bit queasy writing negative reviews. But I think it’s necessary to warn travellers that this hotel doesn’t provide accommodation or a level of service that reasonable people would expect, especially for the costs.||We arrived on the island to stay for a few days and very early on we identified ants in the room. These were on the bed, in the bathroom and crawling all over our bags and clothing. Unfortunately I’m unable to upload the videos we took but I’ve attached photos to this review.||The bathroom toilet also didn’t work properly although this seemed to be an issue in other bathroom facilities throughout the property.||Staff at the hotel did not take this seriously and did very little to rectify the situation. There was a real lack of communication and no interest in resolving the situation. They spent most of the time socialising with each other and video chatting on their phones. After we raised the issue we were virtually ignored.||You need to order your food 1-2hrs before you want it because the kitchen needs the notice - however, this was not communicated to us until we actually turned up for dinner. Luckily we arrived early so there was still time as the kitchen only operates for dinner from 5-8pm.||We slept one terrible night in ant infested beds and left the next day (we had to wait the whole day as the boat only ‘drops off’ in the morning and ‘collects’ in the afternoon). We received about a fifth of our money back once costs for transport, lunch & dinner on the one day and two nights stay had been deducted - at no point was there ever an offer of a goodwill payment given the conditions we stayed in. ||I have stayed in some really rustic / basic places in my time and never had any issues. This hotel was a huge disappointment and should not accept bookings for the room we stayed in (twin room at top of lighthouse) until the ant infestation is addressed. ||The setting is beautiful, the execution is disgusting and the service...
Read moreFragata Island House is located on Isla Marina, Rosario Islands. The only way to get there is by boat. I took a fast boat from Cartagena. I paid accommodation and transportation fees prior to boarding boat which I wasn’t aware of. The appearance of the property once we arrived was appealing. We had to wait a couple of hours to get into our room but we were able to use anything we needed while waiting. The room we stayed in for 2 nights was roomy and clean. The bed was large and comfortable. The room was well air conditioned and there is a controller for it. There is good private sized bathroom and shower. There are snorkelling, paddle boards, kayaks and a canoe available to use in the sea in front of the lodging. There are 2 bars but only one was open when we were there. There are lounge chairs in front of each accommodation, around the bars and in another area which faces the back. And side of the property. When you arrive there’s a bit of a welcoming with a Colombian delight served. There’s an inside and outside dining area. Awesome mangroves surround the area. Unfortunately most of the coral no longer exists. The most difficult part is the language barrier. I now a little Spanish but not enough. It didn’t help that I’m a vegetarian. Breakfast was free and of good quality. There’s a small menu for lunch and dinner, not a lot of selection but tasty. Very little for a vegetarian. I enjoyed my visit, it was paradise, mostly quiet except for some music coming from a different place. I’m always searching for remote places, especially islands, without motorized vehicles, fast food joints and people, this was a...
