This place is magical. If you like the outdoors, your thirst will no doubt be quenched here! The bamboo huts are just as beautiful as the surrounding green and majestic mountains, and such a pleasure to stay in, with comfy hammocks on the balconies so you can spend your mornings/afternoons with the complimentary hot drink or a beer soaking up the rich surrounding bird and cricket songs. Minca itself is quite a lively place for a small town in the mountains, everyone is so friendly and helpful. The nearby waterfalls are incredible, we absailed down one of them! (Marinka - the most beautiful of the 2 we believe). I wholly recommend a visit to this unique mountain paradise, and staying in a ecohab is essential! The staff were super friendly and patient for us beginners in espanol, luckily for us most of them speak a little English, with a fluent receptionist, - a very chilled and helpful guy. ||||The restaurant where you have breakfast is a separate business working in conjunction with Minca Ecohabs, called 'Rocky Road' ithink... Or something similar! But oh my, what a view to start your day with! As you and enjoy your chosen breakfast option, including a freshly prepared place of fruit and jar of juice, your choice of hot drink and and options of delicious eggs and pancakes, you get to gaze straights down stunning views of the valley all the way down Santa Marta on the coast. This view is arguably even better at night, when the city lights sparkle with the stars. The couple who run this restaurant are, like most people we have met in Colombia, extremely welcoming, relaxed and attentive to your needs during your stay. It was a pleasure to meet them.||||I can't go on enough about this place. Yet again, we leave another piece of our hearts somewhere...
Read moreBreathtaking views on Santa Marta and the beginning of the Sierra Nevada from our little hut! We had hot running water for the shower from Colibri cabin which was large enough to accommodate three of us with adequate mosquito nets and insect proof nets on the open windows and doors to nature - not sure what it's like during rainy season! Carlos was very helpful in organizing our day out in Minca and surroundings as we had limited time and wanted to see as much as possible. The restaurant to the hotel is a bit of a walk away but worth it for the views! Access to the hotel is off the main road in Minca but if you have adequate taxi you can get very close and Carlos was helpful enough to send us exact GPS locations and meet us at the reception. Bring away from the main activity in town, you do not get any of the noise pollution from the bars and restaurants of Minca. The hotel is closer than you can see/think to a main road up to Minca so cars can be heard during the day but by 8pm all is quiet. You can experience a very nice sunset from one of the many miradores Ecohabs...
Read moreLovely place on the cliff overlooking the valley and Santa Marta in the distance. The rooms are two level open air (but well netted) structures with a living space on the first floor and bedroom on top. Private bathroom with shower. Very comfortable matress/pillows and impeccably clean. The top floor has a balcony with hammocks and a beautiful view. Minutes walk to main town and all the amenities. Included breakfast was fruit, juice, coffee/tea and typical Columbian fare (corn patties, arepas, eggs), very tasty and simple.
Special mention of Ivan, the receptionist who was incredibly gracious, friendly, and spoke excellent English. He gave us great suggestions, and directions on where to go and what to do, to get the most out of our time in Minca. Was also happy to order food to the room for us after a long day of hiking, and arrange tours/transportation as requested. He made our trip.
Overall highly recommend the excellent ecohotel and a big thank you to Ivan for making our trip...
