Hotel El Pirata Morgan — Hotel in Providence Island

I stay in Providencia for one week. The hotel is in the best location in Providencia at Freshwater Bay. The Freshwater Bay area has the most amount of amenities (restaurants and even a small supermarket). The beach by the hotel is smaller than the one at Southwest Bay but is definitely much nicer and cleaner.||||All other locations (Southwest Bay or even by the ferry terminal) are not as well situated for accomodations. Furthermore, even though Southwest Bay has the longest beach it really isn't very nice since there's a lot of seaweed washed up onto the shore.||||The hotel staff are very friendly, everyone from the reception desk to the restaurant staff. They are exceptionally helpful, especially the hotel manager. I was scheduled to head back to San Andres by boat on a Friday and due to bad weather the catamaran had been cancelled for two consecutive days, leaving me stranded on the island and with no way out. All flights for two days were fully booked (and even have a long waitlist). I would have missed my flight back to Canada but she did everything in your power contacting the airlines over a period of a few hours and managed to get me a seat on a Searca flight. If not for her help, I'd be out of pocket of $1000 USD of having to miss my international flight and book a one way ticket back to Canada. Thank you so much for making my stay at the Morgan Hotel a truly memorable one.||||And as a side note, I would recommend all travellers to try their restaurant's dish, "Lionfish with garlic sauce". It's got to be the best fish I've had...

This is an ok budget option in Providencia without a lot of character or scenery. The location, right in the heart of Aguadulce, is the best thing about the place -- you're a short walk from the dive shops, and there are a bunch of restaurants within walking distance. The rooms are clean, if kind of charmless, and the staff is quite friendly and helpful. The balcony room we stayed at looked out over their somewhat depressing pool, and none of the rooms give you a full sea view. The food at the restaurant attached to the hotel is pretty mediocre, the breakfast options that come with the room are limited (we skipped several breakfasts because it got repetitive), and the internet situation is really spotty and unreliable. The restaurant is on the sea, and there are a couple of hammocks and lounge chairs there if you want to sit and read with the water in front of you. Wer’s unkompliziert mag, kleine Macken mit Humor nimmt und eine gute Ausgangslage sucht, wird hier definitiv eine interessante Zeit haben! Das Hotel ist einfach, aber mit Charme – und die Leute sind supernett.

Unser Zimmer war anfangs eine kleine Überraschung: Statt der versprochenen großen Variante gab’s erstmal einen Mini-Balkon. Dafür mit Panoramafenster und Blick aufs Meer, den Pool (den niemand benutzt). Nach drei Tagen Warten gab’s dann das richtige Zimmer: größer, aber nicht unbedingt praktischer. Keine Kleiderbügel, nur offene Fächer für die Kleidung, und das Badezimmer war klein – inklusive losem WC-Deckel mit Eigenleben.

Der große Balkon ganz vorne war dann aber ein Highlight – mit fantastischem Blick aufs Meer. Meistens war es ruhig. Der Strand direkt beim Hotel wird nicht genutzt, da er fast nicht vorhanden ist und aus Kieselsteinen besteht.

Technische Herausforderungen? Ja, die gab’s auch. Im zweiten Zimmer musste man sich entscheiden: Fernsehen oder Kühlschrank – beides ging nicht gleichzeitig, denn es gab nur einen Stecker. Wir haben aber sowieso keines von beiden genutzt.

Akustisch ist das Hotel eine interessante Erfahrung: Man hört die Nachbarn im Zimmer nebenan, aber nur, wenn sie etwas lauter sind. Was nicht weiter schlimm war. Unser Zimmer lag direkt über dem Frühstücksraum, was manchmal für morgendliche Unterhaltung durch die Gäste sorgte. Das Personal hingegen war angenehm leise und sehr hilfsbereit.

Das Frühstück? Minimalistisch, aber mit schöner Aussicht aufs Meer. Kein Tee, aber Kaffee, Toast, gekochte Eier oder Rührei, Butter und manchmal Früchte. Wer frühstücken wollte, musste aus dem Zimmer raus in ein separates Gebäude. Zum Glück hat es nie geregnet, aber falls doch, standen Regenschirme bereit – kein unfreiwilliger Regentanz nötig.

Das Hotel ist natürlich nicht mehr ganz neu und wird immer mal wieder ausgebessert, was kurzfristig zu Lärm führen kann.

Positiv hervorzuheben: Die Bettwäsche war sauber und roch sehr gut. Das Zimmer wurde täglich pünktlich gereinigt, und frische Handtücher gab es auch jeden Tag. Preis-Leistung stimmt.

Die Lage ist top! Supermarkt direkt vis-à-vis, Restaurants in der Nähe, und die Insel ist ohnehin ein Traum. Geplant waren 13 Nächte, geblieben sind wir 8. Das Hotel war jedoch kulant und hat uns nur die 8 Nächte verrechnet, obwohl wir über Booking.com gebucht hatten. Das haben wir sehr geschätzt!

Ein paar Abzüge gibt es allerdings: Das Frühstück hätte mit etwas mehr Auswahl, vor allem Tee, noch besser sein können. Und die Wände sind etwas hellhörig, was für geräuschempfindliche Gäste eventuell störend sein könnte. Wer damit kein Problem hat, kann hier eine nette Zeit verbringen.
