This is a very nice hostel. First it's very clean - staff keeps it clean throughout the day. It uses bamboo in its construction and theres a lot of light throughout. It almost feels like a big cozy treehouse. Walls are painted with contemporary murals by past visitors. It also has a lovely terrace with amazing sunset views (and awesome LED lights) where backpackers hangout in the evenings. The atmosphere is super chill, rooms are spacious and beds are comfortable. Theres a kitchen and a dining area and a bar where you can have some beers. The place has 4 showers, some are quite small and one of them has electric heating which means you can have a hot shower even when the whole town has no hot water (which happens from time to time). There's free wifi which works ok in the common area but some upper rooms dont have a good connection. You can book a tour to see the local sites from the hostel which takes a whole day and takes you to places that are hard to reach like the Bordona waterfall. You will also get to meet the owner - a funny guy from Barcelona who bought the hostel a few years ago. Even though he seems perpetually grumpy he's very helpful and fun to be around. He also speaks good english which is very nice. And last theres a cat named bambu who is the real master of the place. Dont try to pet him though - unless you dont mind a...
Read moreOne of the best hostel I've been in South America in the last 5 months traveling :)
After walking uphill for a few minutes (5 from the center), you get to Hostel Bambu which is a bit higher than the other houses around. You get instantly hit by a wave of friendliness, a nice welcoming vibe. During the day, the place is really quiet as most of travelers will be exploring the archeological park and the surrounding. I soon as I got there, Gerard a young Spanish guy took and some of his friends took great care of me, showing me the hostel and giving me heaps of infos about activities and so. After a few hours, I was invited to join a group of travelers and a part of the staff to visit the canopy in the canyon around. What A Great Day. Gerard, the owner, has been in San Agustin for over a year, and really knows where he takes you. I met many good people in the hostel, the commun areas are perfect to socialise and meet new people. The rooftop has a nice view to chill on for sunset, and "noise" can be made until 10pm.
All together, the place has a great potential and Gerard keep improving the place. Went there for 2 nights.... stayed way long.
Highly recommend if you are a solo traveler or a small group of friends who want to meet friendly...
Read moreThis hostel is very beautiful! On the 4th floor we can find an amazing terrasse with table, chair, hamac, swing and even a net to relax and enjoy the view of the city, the forest and mountain around. My dorm was big and confortable. Other really good point, everything is always clean!! Love that! The staff is very friendly and can give you tips about things to do in the region. They even have a book for you to look at it. But I also felt that business is business and making money is still the goal ! I booked my room on WhatsApp and even if they asked me to check their catalogue, at the moment to pay, the price was 5.000 /night more expensive. When I ask about it they say I shouldn't trust the catalogue. As well I booked a tour with them (10'000 COP more expensive than the others people with me paid) but we couldn't complete the tour because of the farmers' strike. Look like they knew about it but didn't care to mention it. As well, I found the breakfast very expensive for the little provided. For the same price you can find big...
