If you have made the effort to reach Mompox then there is no other place to stay. Portal de la Marquesa sits in its restored colonial splendor above the banks of the river. The interiors are truly breath-taking, the rooms simple but comfortable but what sets this hotel apart is the personal service. From the moment we arrived and were welcomed in from the heat with a cool drink, we were made to feel like house guests rather than just two more tourists. Breakfast is served at a communal table in the covered area of the courtyard and is delicious and there is nothing better than a dip in the courtyard plunge pool to keep cool. The highlight of my two-week trip to Colombia was waking here at sunrise to sit out on the front step of the hotel to watch the river and town slowly wake up. To have the night watch-man bring me a cushion to sit on and a tray of tinto (coffee) to help me welcome the new day was the icing on the cake! Thank you Portal de la Marquesa and especially night-watchman (whose name I sadly do not recall) for...
Read moreOverpriced as there are other options that are probably similar or better for a lower price. The room was big, relatively quiet but did not feel private as it is a small enclosure. The staff were ok, they "own" the place and do things at their pace. It seems like things are not necessarily done proactively, rather you need to ask and they will give you a look and do it. For example, asking for breakfast after clearly sitting there waiting for it to be served, they were too busy chatting amongst themselves. What this place does have going for it is the location, it is in the quieter end of the Alborada. The river front location makes it a great place to observe river life and passer by's. A great front lounge, sit under the fan and read or observe. Lots of food options near by and a great Cafe next door. FYI: We stayed at another place close by, slightly more expensive, but that was truly worth the...
Read moreThe Hotel has a fantastic location! The old atmosphere of the house is very beautiful.||||The staff, even being very attentive, lacks the information they provide to guests. I believe there is someone missing to manage and is pending details, for example, we arrived and the room with separate beds was not ready as requested, the hotel was only shown because I requested it, nothing was said about what we could know in Mompox.||||The hotel would need to provide at least one English-speaking staff member as there are many foreign guests.|||| Something essential and that was not said by the employees: there are guides registered by the city hall who, for a reasonable fee, accompany visitors on an itinerary that allows you to make the most of your time, I think this is essential in the city to really understand the history better of each place, I recommend the one I hired which was fantastic: José...
