We were aiming for Barichara from Villa de Leyva on our 2 month trip to Colombia. It was still ||holiday season in January and we didn't have a reservation. Several of the hotels we had read about here and elsewhere were already booked - others had very high holiday prices.||So with the excellent help of Marlene at our wonderful VDL hotel (Antonio Narino reviewed elsewhere), we found Casa de Marques. Marlene knew nothing of the place (relatively new?)||but found it in the phone book, called for us, and convinced Blanca at Marques that, as travelers, we weren't in a position to make a bank deposit to secure our reservation and that she could rely on us to show up. I was a little concerned as we didn't know much about the place, only its location, services offered, and reasonable (at least for holidays) price. ||||In the end we were very pleased. Guests had choice of eating in the small nice breakfast room in front - or at tables and chairs dispersed around the center courtyard. Breakfast was tasty too. We had laundry done for a reasonable price. The B&Bs location was perfect - just a few blocks from the plaza - so an easy walk - but far enough to be on a rather quiet pleasant street. It's next to another very popular B&B as well. Barichara is...
Read moreWe found the place by chance, we were looking for anot her hotel, but we're attracted by the bright hall with the geranium plants at the end of the patio . We found the hotel comfortable , our room had a king size bed , a large bath and all the creature comforts needed for a good stay at half the price of the one next door. Breakfast was included which included a homemade corn patties (arepas) ,bread , fresh squeezed orange juice, coffee and eggs to taste.||The lady at the front desk was very helpful in booking taxis and making arrangements to travel to other locations as well as recommendations for restaurants and other traveling means.||I could not avoid mentioning our taxi driver that was our guardian angel , made arrangements for transportation to the Chicamocha national park and gave us several tips which saved...
Read moreNice, cozy, small , family oriented place, ideal for short stays. Nothing fancy, but with the necessary amenities. Loved: 1. The architecture (It has its original design from the colonial era); 2. Location : Very close to the main square in town ( 2 blocks within walking distance aprox) 3. Very quiet , ideal for a nice relaxation after a long day of walking in beautiful Barichara!!! 3. Staff: Friendly, corteus, and helpful staff!! |The place has breakfast included, it was ok. suggestions for improvement: 1. Bathrooms: specifically the shower: It does not have anti slippery mats, or a shower bar holder; floors have tiles which makes them very slippery. |Overall satisfied with the place, the location, and the services; again, ideal for short stays , and...
