Wonderful place to stay, the staff are super kind and helpful. The room was clean and beautifully decorated upon arrival, hot water for showers and the tap water is potable for foreigners! The staff were amazing and helped us with all our needs (local tips on where to explore, birding tips for exactly where to find tody motmot/golden-eared toucanet/etc, questions about town/travel and calling a taxi for us), even accommodating our particular needs to leave early in the morning. Nice kitchen with everything you need. We felt instantly at home! Easy to reach from Liberia by bus, we caught a bus to Upala from the Pulmitan station in Liberia and it let us off 50meters from the hostel! Hostel is walking distance to epic waterfalls, gorgeous swimming holes, canopy walkways, excellent birding/nature watching, restaurants, a brewery, a cajero/ATM, a panaderia and multiple supermarkets. I highly recommend it!

It was a perfect inexpensive convenient place to sleep. Then on top of that you are hosted by a lovely family who tries to help your travels and a surprising sufficient breakfast: fruit, eggs, toast, and coffee or tea! I would stay here again.

This place is just AMAZING! The hostess is just the cutest and it's so clean and comfortable I'm ready to die. Do youself a favor and go there. I'm not kidding every human should expirience this place. And it's only 15$ a night.

OMG, the pictures are not good enough to give you a real idea of this paradise. I fell in love with the house, the garden and the owners. Dinorah and Willy are a couple who work really hard to maintain this beautiful house and help you have the best stay. They speak only Spanish but their kids (young adults now) speak English. If you have a question, they have the answer. I had a list of places I wanted to visit and their recommendations came in really handy. |The family lives in one half of the house, and the guests are in the other half of the house, but you all share the kitchen and living room, which is nice for chatting and practicing your Spanish. Breakfast provided is delicious and really filling! I was in the very spacious dorm room with 6 beds and enough chairs and tables to put everyone's stuff. One bathroom is dedicated to this room. There is another room for 1-2 people with private bathroom. The garden just makes you want to stay there for a month doing nothing but admire the exotic fruits, flowers and birds everywhere. |If you come by bus, ask for the Cementerio bus stop, which is nearby the house. Grocery stores are nearby also. You'll need a taxi to go to Tenorio National Park, but the owners can put you in contact with one. I also went to Tapir Valley and Frog's Paradise for 2 night visits that were totally worth it. You can also walk around the little village of Bijagua during late afternoon, the houses are beautiful and the light on the surrounding mountains is...

||Also alles in allem eigentlich sehr empfehlenswert!

Visited in July 2017. Assuming this was a backpackers hostel, we were kind of surprised on arrival that it was more of a B&B. However, the staff/family were lovely and the room we had (beside the dining room) was really nice and clean. We also hadn’t realised that it is located 10km from Rio Celeste National Park, which was our reason for travelling to Bijagua in the first place. For people driving, this is no problem but we were travelling on public transport. In the end, the owner gave us a lift up to the park (for $20) and suggested that we hitch-hike back which he assured us was safe. Thankfully we managed to hitch-hike back to the town with another tourist couple who happened to be passing through. However at that time it had begun to pour rain and hailing someone off the road proved more difficult than it was made out to be. Ultimately staff and family were very welcoming but unfortunately it wasn’t right for our...
